Living Changes: "pas-a-pas = step by step"

I am an American living and working in Europe. My great loves are Jesus, my fiance, my family and friends (who are just like family), music, reading, cooking (a new love), coffee and chocolate!!!

I live in the land of great chocolate and the best fries ever. So since moving here almost 4 years ago, my weight has gone up and down according to the amount of stress I have. There are also a lot of rainy days here and that doesn't make me want to get out to exercise. And being ...

I live in the land of great chocolate and the best fries ever. So since moving here almost 4 years ago, my weight has gone up and down according to the amount of stress I have. There are also a lot of rainy days here and that doesn't make me want to get out to exercise. And being single, it is so much easier to grab quick food than take the time to prepare something healthy. Here it isn't so much McDonald's that will get you as the Turkish snack places with the durums, fries and samarai sauce that adds on the pounds.

I am getting married in September and want to lose a little before that day. My eventual goal is to look in the mirror and like what I see. My goal along the way is to learn how to eat well and what portion control really means. As I look into the future, I want to be around to have a long and healthy life with my husband and any children that may come.

I remember going on my first diet when I was 13 years old. I don't really remember a time where I wasn't on a diet or thinking I need to be on one since then. 22 years have passed and it is still my biggest struggle. My view of myself changes the way I view everything in life. I want to quit eating because of emotional reasons and take control of the patterns that have shaded everything else.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I finished my first week with SparkPeople and lost 2.2 pounds (we weigh in kilos in Europe, so I lost 1 kilo). I would really like this to be an easy journey where the weight could all fall off in the first month. However, I know that is completely unrealistic and I need to be happy with the slow and steady loss...and in the end the result will be better.

Sometimes I found myself just wanting a taste in my mouth. I love coffee, so many times I would substitute that for food. It seems to help. And I have a sweet-tooth. So I found a simple kids recipe for "iced milk" and that seemed to help my need for sweets.

I also found the vitual model site and created my before and after pictures. I posted them here and on the fridge. Everytime I think I want something to eat I see those pictures and realize the "after" cannot happen if I continue to live like before.

This second week, my goal is to add in more and more veggies. I am measuring everything that goes in and now I need to do some changing of the quality of what is going in. And I want to drink 10 glasses of water everyday. I have a knee injury right now, so I am concentrating on the strength exercises. I am hoping at the end of this week I will see another slow but steady change!

++++++++++++++++++++++++

Goal #1 - lose 15 pounds by September 6
*June 4 - starting date
*June 13 - 2 pounds lost
