My name is Bob, and I'm married to MIMAWELIZABETH.
She always tells me how much Sparking helps her, and shares articles and blogs with me. I lost weight a few years ago after starting a new med to treat my Type II Diabetes. However, since my kidneys began to fail, life has drastically changed.

I was diagnosed with ESRD (End Stage Renal Disease) in February 2011, and have been on PD (Peritoneal Dialysis, which is done at home) since June 2011. They say I'm doing very well on the Dialysis; but I still get tired very easily, and am limited in what I can do physically. I also regained the weight.

With DW's help, I'm tracking my food again, and committed to eating healthily and losing weight. My application for a kidney transplant was submitted. Not only do I want to be an excellent transplant candidate, if I'm lucky enough to be a recipient, I'll take the very best care of my new kidney.

UPDATE: I've had some major health setbacks since January 2015, requiring going to Hemo instead of doing dialysis at home. I lost a lot of weight this year; in fact, I'm underweight right now. However, unfortunately, since it's due to not eating because I've been so sick, it's more of a problem.

Hopefully the surgery I'll have at the end of September will fix the root cause of all these months of complications. Then, after
I heal, I can go back on PD, start walking again, and get back to the Life I want with my DW and family.

My Goals:
My goal is to track my food, learn about the quality of what I'm eating, and eat all the necessary and extra nutrients required by being on dialysis.

My Program:
I've been a Type II diabetic for decades, and maintained a healthy A1C for 15 years. However, ESRD has caused my health to fluctuate.

My wife has been asking me for a long time to make sure my food intake is as healthy as it should be. She's helping me to track, and I'm learning to make better choices.

Personal Information:
I've lived in SoCal all my life. Elizabeth and I have been married for 15 years, and together for over 19 years.

We are "Mimaw" and "Grandpa" to Kaile, who is my daughter's daughter.
My DD also raised a stepson from the age of four; he graduated HS in 2011, and is in the military.

Including my Mom, our four generations live within 1/2 mile of each other.

Elizabeth's kids - Aubrey and Scott - are my stepchildren. She says I can take credit for helping her to "finish raising them." We lost Scott in February 2008.

In March 2015, Aubrey gave us a new GD, Sierra Elizabeth. I see many trips to Colorado for the new Grandma.

Other Information:
I'm an LA Dodgers fan, through thick and thin; and
I STILL hope the Rams will come back to Los Angeles someday!

Welcome to the ESRD team! We learn a lot from each other here, and I am sure SparkPeople will be a great asset to you... I was in stage 4 before I started here, and got up to stage 3. Of course, then I had to have some major surgery and it threw all my hard work out the window... That's life! LOL

I love SP and all the tools it has given me, and I'm now on the borderline between stage 4 and stage 3... I don't know if I can get more than that back, but who knows? LOL

I know you're in a different place, with a more advanced level, but I also know that your goal for a transplant is going to be easier to meet once you start getting into the tools and so on too... so have some fun with it, make it your friend and ally...

    WELCOME ABOARD!
