This journey is taking many interesting twists and turns. I started it as a wellness endeavor to change my weight and improve my overall health. My husband is an insulin-dependent diabetic and I wanted to be healthier for the two of us. He joined me in my changes and his blood sugar is normal for the first time in 10 years. Our daughter enters college this fall and we both want to be there at her graduation, healthy and able to enjoy her new life with her.

Then the bottom fell out. I was terminated from my job and my 'image adjustment' has taken on new meaning. I have to put forward a vibrant and dynamic presence in job interviews and convince a new employer that I am a valuable assest for them. Fortunately I have been able to get part-time employment and the bills will be paid - there will be no extras but the basics will be taken care of. I will still look for a full time position but the immediate crisis is being dealt with.

Having eaten my way through a nervous breakdown in college (top weight was over 300) I have spent the last 25 years trying to regain my sanity and health. Losing and gaining was a vicious cycle. As with most of us, no program lasted and I felt doomed to fail over and over. When I found SP I was ready to quit totally. But this was different - it wasn't about weight, it was about me as a person.

My energies now are targeted toward drastic changes in every aspect of my life - not just my personal health. To say that I am scared is an understatement. I am terrified. The support from Spark People has held me up in my physical changes and I look forward to the continued support in the other changes that I face.

My husband and I are working together in training for a 5K race. He will make it before I will as he has less distance to travel in preparation. The most important thing is that I will make it - maybe not this month, or next month, but I will make it. When I finally do cross the finish line, I will win in the most important race of my life - the race to survive.

My Goals:
My daughter is entering college this fall and I am making significant changes to insure that I will be there to see her graduate. Additionally, I am daily involved in a job search and need to present a positive and healthy image to prospective employers. And as we all know....thin is in.

My Program:
Eating a healthy diet and focusing on cholesterol and fat content is a daily commitment. Exercising a minimum of 50 minutes of intensive cardio work is an absolute must for every day. I am also working on flexibility and toning to accommodate this gradually appearing healthy body.
