My healthy lifestyle continues. . . and will get better!

It is March 2012 and my journey has continued!

I just got back from a wonderful week long family vacation that included 5 days at Disneyland. I thought that I would surely gain weight after a month of not tracking food, a week of eating out, and longer away from the gym. You can imagine my delight when I hopped on the scale once I got back home and did not gain a pound! Hooray!

Winter is always a less active time for me. . .brrr! Thankfully I am still committed ...

My major resolution for 2012 is to continue thinking about what I eat and setting small goals for change. My main goal is to learn more about raw foods and clean eating and to reduce my intake of animal proteins. I also hope to set monthly goals, which I will post in my blog.

I have been using SparkPeople since June 1, 2010. My devotion to it has been a bit up and down over the past year but I am very happy and proud of how far I have come!


I joined a gym in December 2010 (I am very lucky to have a gym with classes very near my home) and have fallen in love with group cardio classes! I try to go to zumba 2-4 times a week. I am really starting to see and enjoy the benefits of exercising regularly! For the past few years I have struggled to find an exercise routine that has worked and since joining these fitness classes I have felt SO GOOD and HAPPY!

I reached my original goal weight of 164 and kept it there starting around March of 2011. My goal now (2012) is to stay at 155lbs, BMI of 22 and begin working on toning.

My Goals:
Even healthier eating for 2012! Less meat, less dairy, less processed foods. More veggies, more local, more organic!

My Program:
Zumba 2-4 times a week (including a zumba toning class).

I also walk to and from work 5 days a week and walk home for lunch. It is about a 1/2 mile walk for about 10 minutes each way. Unlike many of my coworkers, I also take the stairs to the third floor!

For 2012 I am learning more about eating a plant-based diet and trying to significantly cut my meat and dairy intake. My boyfriend is trying to be a pescatarian (vegetarian + fish), since he does most of the food shopping and cooking my challenge will be cutting my dairy intake.

I am also focused on eating locally when possible, eating more organic foods (especially from the "dirty dozen" list), eating more whole grains, and reducing processed foods.

Personal Information:
I live in Portland, ME with my boyfriend of 6 years and his 8 year old daughter.

In fall of 2011 I stopped commuting an hour each way and got a new job near my home. This has been a tremendous boost to life and has resulted in more time, money, and happiness! I have ditched the frozen lunches I used to rely on for walking home for lunch to make a fresh (usually organic and local) salad and a bowl of soup.

I have enjoyed cooking more recently, but for the most part my stay-at-home boyfriend cooks for our family. I am the master salad maker and veggie slicer.


I stay up too late!! I would like to get more sleep during the week but just cannot get my butt in bed in time to get 8hours of sleep before work.

Thanks for stopping by my blog! Wow- WTG with still tracking your food through the holiday. I did NOT-- but I'm sure if I tried, I'd be aghast at the numbers for Xmas eve/day. Yikes. Yeah, eggnog is SUPER SCARY cals/fat wise. Eeeep. Have you tried the Silk Soy-Nog? It's soooo yummy and I think it's around 90 cals. for a half cup (still not terrific, but far less horrible than the "regular" egg nog which can top 350 cals for a cup!). You should try it-- I love it hot in a mug, with a little sprinkle of nutmeg! What a treat!
