Hello~ I'm Melinda and this is my attempt at changing my lifestyle. I have been obese my entire life. I was the chunky kid in school that had no neck, wore the awkward clothing and was teased constantly. I had the mother who tried to do the right thing and sent me to nutritionists, Weight Watchers, Nutrisystem, etc. She had me Sweatin' to the Oldies with Richard Simmons and aerobics at Gloria Stevens. I have gone from an obese child to an obese adult. I was in process of having gastric bypass surgery, but I decided I wanted to do this myself. As my doctor told me "You're the healthiest overweight person I have met."

I have been trying to lose weight forever it seems. And I am successful sometimes. But I am always looking for the support and approval of others. Then I had some great advice from some great women - You need to do it for yourself. I guess I had never thought about it in those terms.

My goal is to become a healthier person and lose this weight. Not for my husband or my kids, but for me. And maybe by being healthy myself, I can be a model for them to follow. So here I go.....to do it for me.

I stuck to my guns and did my exercises this morning and I do feel good for doing it. My entire routine only takes 15 minutes but I figure that's 15 minutes more than I usually do. I count this as a win in my book. I am simply using the exercises they gave me at the hospital that we did each morning until I feel I can add to it. I think I will plan on a walk before lunch for another 15 minutes and that will give me a 30 minute work out each day. I just need to keep trudging along.

Welcome to the journey!!!
I'm glad your friends referred you here. I'm like you, I have a significant ammount of weight to lose (140lbs from startdate) and that can get overwhelming. But, I didn't want to do a major body altering surgery without knowing that I'd really given it my absolute all. Here, I find the tools to learn about a healthy lifestyle, and the support and motivation to walk it out.
For me, finding sparkteams of people who had similiar journeys was crucial, so that I knew I was talking to people who REALLY understood my battle... and even better, find people who were successfully making changes in their lives.
There's a lot of tools here, I kind of use the sparkpoints page as my launching pad, still. From there, I get links to various tools that educate me, encourageme me and motivate me... and as I earn points for each thing, I get to celebrate that I'm THAT MUCH closer to a healthier life. :D I know that it's about changing my mindset so much more than changing my waistsize. It's about a journey, and it's about being free and being healthy in every aspect of my life. I welcome you, to your own journey... and I wish you well. :D

Awesome :) I'm just getting ready to take the oldest to Pre-K, but I'm going to come back to check your page out more when I have some "spare" time. One of the teams I love on here is called "Done Being the Fat Girl". They're super supportive and very fun and there are always challenges to join. Have a wonderful day!
