My name is Sheila and I am 62 years young. I have returned to SparkPeople this time around I weigh 146 lbs, I have set another goal to shead 16 pounds by August 12th, 2012. I am here again because I have Realized that it's not that easy without SparkPeople and the motivation from friends on SP.

Working full-time as an in-home design consultant allows me a window from 6:30 am to 8:00 am for a fast walk before work to the Newport Beach pier and back. There is something magical about being an early bird on the boardwalk smelling the salt air and hearing the seagulls squawk over some small tidbit treasure they found.

The climb back up the hill to home challenges me every time. That is one killer of a hill! The finish is a small miracle, there is nothing like it, it is the best jump start to begin the perfect day.

Personal Information:
It is so wonderful to live at the beach, Newport Beach is sandwiched like peanut butter and jelly between two delicious cities; San Diego and Los Angeles.

I have a few passions but will only mention a couple; through the loss of my daughter to leukemia 23 years ago I have stayed connected to her spirit by supporting women and families who are faced with cancer. From being a Wish Grantor for MAKE- A- WISH to fundraising CUT-A-THON'S in the community for those faced with financial difficulties due to medical issues.

Some other acts are through workshops teaching women the importance of keeping a daily journal for a healthy recovery.

By combining these two passions; interior design and supporting women with cancer has allowed me to live a more healthy emotional life style.

I came by to welcome you to the Old Hippies team, and just got lost here on your page! I lived in Laguna Beach, Dana Point, Capo Beach and then transitioned to Leucadia and Encinitas and north to Mendocino....ah...the California coast. Anything like it in the world? I love your description of Newport and how it is sandwiched!

Anyway, I was touched deeply by the thought of losing a child. How very difficult that must have been (and still is I imagine...) But, congrats for turning your pain into a positive energy and drive.

You may also be interested in our Thanksgiving Community. Stop by my spark page and check it out.

    Oh yeah, Welcome!

I am so glad you have joined our team, but so sorry for your loss. You are doing great work in memory of your daughter. I too volunteer as a remembrance for my son.

By the way, you look fabulous already! emoticon

Welcome to the Lost a Loved One team and to Spark People. The Spark people site is such a great resource to help you on your way to healthier living, although, I am in agreement with MLR. By your picture you could be 20 years younger. You have taken very good care of yourself.

I live 50 miles inland from the Pacific in Northern Oregon. I too like the beach but it is much colder up here.

I am sorry you lost your daughter. That is so very sad at any age. Supporting other women and families with cancer must be healing. I had a student that was able to go to Disneyland through Make A Wish. Thank you for being part of that. Can you tell us what the Cut A Thons are?

Thanks for the wonderful message. You look beautiful! I would never guess you to be 60 years old. I had to read it a couple of different times to make sure.

I'm going to add you to my friends. I hope you don't mind. I hope you enjoy Sparkpeople as much as I do. It is such a wonderful tool.

Have a great evening and a excellent walk in the morning.

    God Bless.
