after smoking for 18 years (heavily) and abusing my body with alcohol and fast food and weight gain...i started running and walking did my first half marathon...slowly now training for full and a 24 hour race.....lots of walking maybe run it all someday..lost 50 pounds but still long way to go....dont want to be a couch potato anymore.....i hope other smokers and non active people in their forties see that if a chain smoker can quit, train, and finish such events that they will also try quitting and accomplishing something important to them....even better if they ask me for help or advice i like to help anyone i can.....bottom line is excuses are the devil.....i had bad knees, back and lungs till i started training and ironically all better

My Goals:
this year it is all about finishing the half, full, the ultra...so next year i have a target....i have ambitious goals like boston and 100 miles etc but lets walk before we run ...oops sorry no pun intended.....i quit smoking 6/1/07 and will never smoke again


My Program:
right now walking and jogging and several fitness workouts to finish losing weight and hopefully be running again instead of the walking/jogging

i started this journey at 273 pounds but just signed up for spark (at 225lbs) because i want to find positive minded people that hope to accomplish goals like marathons or even just a 5k and if it is local or virtual I will try my best to be a true friend supporting unconditionally

    Thank you so much for adding me as a sparkfriend! Congratulations on the running and quitting bad habits! It gives me hope to read that you were once a smoker. I unfortunately, have yet to kick that habit completely. I am training for a 5 mile race on Thanksgiving and it is really giving me pause to think about how much damage the cigarettes have caused. I hope I can give it up for good in the near future:)

    Thank you for liking my bird blog, wish I had a better zoom on my camera. It sounds like you live in paradise. You have quite a assortment, I have wood peckers, sometimes we see one Eagle, no cardinals here. I think I need more feeders and maybe more bird attracting plants.

    Thank you for all your kind words on my blog and photos.

    Our friends/family get threatened sometimes when we change. They think they might have to change also. They end of becoming negative towards us or try to sabotage without sometime realizing it...that's might take on it.

    I've lost over 80lbs myself and it also happened to me. It is sad, but once they realized that we are not asking them to change, but support us, it gets better. When they realize it's still us, life is good again!! LOL

    Strangers have no expectation from us. All they know is we are in a race or a competition doing the best of our ability. They know that we have trained hard just like their loved one.

    I run a free program for morbidly obese individuals to better their health. 32 very diverse people have come together and have formed a tight knit family. They support, push, call, laugh, cry, etc....with each other. It is totally awesome!!

    sometimes we may have things happen that we wished couldve happened differently, but in the inevitable end we come out on top and are able to turn those said things around..

    Its Like the Road Less traveled, and that does make all the difference!
