The picture from the half marathon I ran

I did a half marathon the other day (10/24/10). I can't really say I ran it because I am so frigging slow. I came in 1722 out of 1791. I honestly could not care if I came in at 1791 - I finished. I am happy with that. But, I just got a link to the race pictures. And, it killed me. I honestly had no idea I was that friggin big. So, it's time to get my butt in gear and get to a healthy, comfortable weight.

My Goals:
I'm 45 now. My true, long term goal, is to do the Bermuda Walking Marathon for my 75th birthday with my wife and kids. I figure if I am healthy enough to do that at that age, have my kids want to do that with me then and pay for the kids and their families at that time, I will have had a damn good life. But, my immediate goal is to get healthy enough to make it that long. Oh, and to wear a "large" shirt instead of a 2XL.

Trying to figure that out.

Personal Information:
Originally from Philly. Been in Atlanta since 1996. Married 20 years with two great kids.

Other Information:
The Nuts! Nuts! Get 'em! has been the "rallying cry" for me and my family. It's from an old Far Side. It's a bunch of squirrels in a huddle chanting that and it says before starting their day, squirrels must first pump themselves up.

Thanks for the kind words. For me, it has been all about deficit calories. I need to burn 500-700 calories more than I consume every day. I have done so 90% of the time and I must admit that I have had a few slip ups. But... its back on the horse and away we go again.

Your goal of 196 can be achieved. It will be challenging but you can make it. I walk 5-6 miles a day and sometimes more. I know that takes 2 hours out of your day but if there's a way you can put that into your daily routine, you will see exemplary results. Just imagine yourself at 230# and then again at 215# and then again at 200#. Imagery goes a long way in developing motivational goal.

Go get em.
