The picture from the half marathon I ran

I did a half marathon the other day (10/24/10). I can't really say I ran it because I am so frigging slow. I came in 1722 out of 1791. I honestly could not care if I came in at 1791 - I finished. I am happy with that. But, I just got a link to the race pictures. And, it killed me. I honestly had no idea I was that friggin big. So, it's time to get my butt in gear and get to a healthy, comfortable weight.

My Goals:
I'm 45 now. My true, long term goal, is to do the Bermuda Walking Marathon for my 75th birthday with my wife and kids. I figure if I am healthy enough to do that at that age, have my kids want to do that with me then and pay for the kids and their families at that time, I will have had a damn good life. But, my immediate goal is to get healthy enough to make it that long. Oh, and to wear a "large" shirt instead of a 2XL.

My Program:
Trying to figure that out.

Personal Information:
Originally from Philly. Been in Atlanta since 1996. Married 20 years with two great kids.

Other Information:
Fitbit - user - www.fitbit.com/user/2B36S3 - Please feel free to add me as a friend.

The Nuts! Nuts! Get 'em! has been the "rallying cry" for me and my family. It's from an old Far Side. It's a bunch of squirrels in a huddle chanting that and it says before starting their day, squirrels must first pump themselves up.

Hit my first long term goal of breaking 35 minutes on a 5k on 9/20/14 - 3.12 miles in 35 minutes!

I hope you're feeling a little more motivated this weekend or at least being easy on yourself if you're not. You got this!
I wish you all the best. I am rutting for you over here.

Thanks for your comment! Consider myself lucky I guess. When I stopped diet soda I did it cold turkey January 2013 avoided the major temptations the first few weeks, that's after 30 plus strait years of having 2 -10 diet sodas every single day. This was very difficult in comparison to the moment I also decided to eliminate the added sugar having already adjusted to no AS. I'm fairly sure I would not have been able to convince myself to eliminate both artificial sweeteners and added sugar at same time or would have been able to make that big of an adjustment at once.

When I emphasize artificial sweeteners of any kind including stevia are much worse or equally as bad as added sugar regarding hunger issues, eating habits and weight gain, I get comments, oh artificial sweeteners do not affect my hunger and I lost x amount of weight using them comments. Like I switched from sugar soda to diet soda and lost 40 pounds. People get especially offensive regarding stevia and simply do not understand since they assume like I always had, they help with weight loss. Perhaps the most important benefit no one talks about of getting rid of all the sweetness, especially artificial ones is your taste buds change greatly and naturally crave healthy foods instead. Suddenly your enjoying fruit as a dessert, which you like more than you ever remembered you like ice cream or cake.
