I recently had the biggest health scare of my life and the doctors and nurses who have cared for me tell me how lucky I am to be alive, what they are not saying, but what any fool would know, is that part of the reason I came so close to meeting my maker after what should have been a minimally invasive surgery, is my weight.

I think my story isn't any different than most people here, I've had issues with my weight my entire adult life, in fact, I started having issues with my weight as early as 11 years of age.

I have gained and lost several hundred pounds in the last two decades, and yet, I am still struggling.

Last year, on the eve of my 37th birthday, I had to face my biggest fear head on, I was diagnosed with diabetes. Diabetes runs in my family, I have seen people die of diabetes-related complications, but I was in denial, thinking that simply wishing it away would keep it away!

It did not.

So I am here once again, determined to make LIFETIME changes. I am not going to diet, I am not going to drive myself insane with guilt, I AM going to learn healthier ways to cook, make healthier choices and get moving. I will try new sports and I will become the self-proclaimed gym rat of yesteryear! I WILL REGAIN MY HEALTH!

I am a former marathoner so my goal for 2012 is to hit the road and kick some asphalt once again! I would like nothing more than than to complete a 1/2 Marathon this year and if my health allows it, I WILL!

I LOVE LIFE---it's too bad I had to learn the hard way how quickly I can lose mine. PLEASE TAKE CARE OF YOUR HEALTH, it's truly the ONLY thing that matters!

***UPDATE: I completed my first 1/2 Marathon in a little over 5 years this past weekend, May 5th, 2013 and have lost a whopping 25 lbs. so far! The best is yet to come!

My Goals:
SHORT TERM:
Reach my pre-Canada weight by the end of May, I have 7 lbs. to go!

LONG TERM:
Reach a healthy weight of 130-140 lbs.



My Program:
Stay within a range of 1500-1850 calories.

Exercise at least 6 times per week.

Dedicate 8 hours to sleep per night.

Take my daily multi-vitamins.



Personal Information:
I am interested in AIDS Charities (have ran 3 marathons to raise money for AIDS Project Los Angeles), have volunteered with APLA and are a big supporter of Project RED and Keep a Child Alive. I love to travel and my hobbies are photography, reading, writing and music--Frank Sinatra is my favorite! I love to read true crime and my favorite author is Ann Rule.
