My Journey - April 3, 2008

I started this journey on March 27, 2008. The excess weight has been more than excess baggage for me, and is preventing me from reaching many of my personal goals. For better or for worse, society views overweight individuals as people who are poor performers - at work and in their personal lives. Sadly, in today's world, perception is everything. As a health care professional, being overweight makes one's own credibility suspect. How can one advise patients to lose weight and take control of their own lives when their own physician cannot?

So here we go. This beginning is a lifechanging one on so many levels. I deserve it and I'm ready to start.

UPDATE - November 22, 2010:

Something just clicked these last several weeks. I think it helps a lot having someone at work join me this month to get a .... and then Spark accidentally deleted the rest.

UPDATE - December 15, 2013

Still working on 50 pounds gone for my niece's wedding, August, 2014. Leaning towards more NSVs for now. Looking at the calendar and plotting a mini-goal to stay on track: 12 pounds by the week of March 11th. That's reasonable, and comes to one pound a week for the next 12 weeks. Mark me to stay on point and feel free to join me. TWELVE POUNDs, PEOPLE, IS DOABLE! WHO'S WITH ME?

Update - February 15, 2014

Life is about change. It's good to see where I was almost six years ago, and how much has happened since then. I revisited a blog of a friend of an SP buddy of mine today: PrettyPithy's "There Is No Wagon". It's one of the best blogs I have read on SP. The essence is, we do not "fall" off a wagon, nor do we climb back on it. Life is a progression, and one of making choices. Some days' choices are better than others, but it's still all linear.

Goals in life change and we progress at our pace as we learn more about ourselves and set new goals. We, as a species, need new goals to conquer. It's part of the human makeup. I cannot tell you what will work for you, only what I have found that works for me. I'm still learning. And as I succeed, what I love the most is the "spill over effect" as I call it. When the food part is mastered, and we are feeling good about ourselves, we become more productive with our life goals as well. That's spill over. And it's a great feeling. My journey continues, with newer and shifting goals. As it should be.

Update - May 15, 2014 Depending on the scale (and of course we take the best reading one!), I'm down about 12 pounds since seeing the doctor. I set a goal of 50 pounds down for my niece's wedding come August, and I'm down 12 pounds in that endeavor. Whether I make that deadline or not, I know I will continue with my downward trend. SparkPeople keeps me accountable like no other program. Logging and tracking have been incorporated as part of my daily routine. As easy as brushing my teeth: I don't give it a second thought, and I have been tracking for over six years now.

Goals and life's pursuits change over time. As long as we continue to make healthy choices, I know that I am on track. I'll get there, even if it takes longer than I originally thought. Starting up with the exercise again has helped tremendously, not just body but mind as well. I definitely missed that component while I was out of town on assignment.

Jeez! My brain is always going way too fast! LOL YES the weekdays go by slow (as in MOLASSES) and the weekends go by quickly!!

Are ya sitting down? Drum roll please . . . announcing . . . .

JASON HAS A NEW JOB! He had his interview w/the insurance company in Kentucky, which he felt went well. However, they would not be making a decision for at least several weeks.

Prior to his leaving for that interview heíd received a call offering him the job w/the WI Insurance commissionerís office. He explained that he had to meet his obligation for the interview in Kentucky but would call him immediately. He did and his start date is . . . MONDAY! Can I tell you I imagine the sigh of relief was heard around the world. emoticon

So, we start a new chapter in our house. I am hoping itís a GOOD chapter . . . I . . . WE . . . will make it a good chapter.

My plans for today include making a celebratory supper plan for the weekend (Saturday) when we can enjoy it. I KNOW it will include chocolate (his favorite). And maybe a little champagne??? UH HUH

Monday . . . crept up on us, didn't it! Why is it that the week goes by so quickly and the weekend flies by. Oh well. Going to make it a good Monday.

OH MY GOSH. That quote took me back in time to the show that David Frost hosted. THAT WAS THE WEEK THAT WAS. Good show!

So, sounds like your week was challenging. Have to agree . . . mine too, but onto a new week, right!

Wish us luck. Jason has an interview on Wednesday. Sounds like a good fit and he already had a phone interview, so this will be interview #2, face-to-face.

HUGS
