I saw this quote today. I think the author attributed it to Thich Nhat Hanh — I should probably look it up, because I think I’ll be using it a lot.
Not everyone is familiar with how a lotus grows. It begins as a seed, dropped into the mud and muck of a pond bottom. Pond muck is dirty, slimy, smelly stuff -- but it is rich in what the seed needs in order to grow. In due time, the seed shell opens and a shoot begins to push its way through the mud. It is hard work, but the shoot gathers strength from the nutrients hidden in the mud.
I think we all want the lotus without the mud. I know I do. I want health without exercise and eating right. I want a beautiful and serene home without the housework. I want the words to flow effortlessly without having to go back and edit.
No mud, no lotus.
A healthy mind in a healthy body.
I'd love to be below 200 pounds before September 2013. My eventual goal weight is about 140.
A balanced diet of healthy foods -- just less of it.
Balanced cardio and weights for exercise.
I'm a homemaker living in Metro Atlanta, GA, USA. I love sewing, home improvement projects, reading and knitting. My teenage daughter manages to make me feel simultaneously older and younger than my years.
