No Treadmill Desk -- The Up and Down Journey of an Office Worker

My job isn't the only factor in my weight gain, but it's certainly a contributing factor! The pedometer my workplace gave me logs less than a mile's worth of steps in an average workday, because most of my day is spent behind my desk.

So I'm lobbying for a treadmill desk (hence my ID), that would allow me to get my work done without getting any wider! And doing what I can to whittle away those pounds I picked up sitting.

Great ID. Due to the noise, I can't put in a treadmill desk, but I've been using a stand up for a couple of years now and it's great. Even Dr. Levin grudgingly admitted that the stand-up is pretty good. Dr. Levin is the inventor of the treadmill desk. Good luck.

Thanks for the comment, Shel_V2. Hope you get your stuff moved soon.

Sadly, my soon-to-be-former employer wouldn't allow those after-market raisers they sell to lift the computers or the desks to a reasonable height, and never approved the purchase of new office furnishings designed for the purpose. But I am very much a fan of anything that divorces computer-work from sitting!

An interim alternative to the treadmill desk is a stand-up desk. If you work in a cube, it is usually a very simple matter of getting facilities to just hang the desk parts higher. I have friends who are very much stuck at their desks all day who've worked this way for about 10 years. One of them promoted to an office and it was outfitted with the cube walls so he could keep his stand-up set-up.

I have sometimes used a stand-up desk at home, and found it cured my lower-back pain. We moved and I installed it in the wrong spot, so now I'm just trying to get motivated to move all the things around so I can have it located where I'll actually use it.
