Keep putting one foot in front of the other...
I am Notdatty because my younger son didn't call me Mommy - he generalized both my husband and I into "Datty". I caught myself repeatedly saying to him "My name is NOT Datty!", and my username was born... Times change, and he is speaking in sentences now, including the word "Mummy"! I have a big journey in front of me, long overdue. I can't think of it as an overall goal right now even, but if I break it into small goals I just might be able to lose the weight 5 lbs at a time. ...

Time to step up for myself and step up for my kids, time to take control and live better!

My Goals:
I am finally seeking true balance and honest priorities in my life. Good health, happiness, and excellent stress management! I want to be a good example to my young children, so it is time to seize the opportunity to get my own house in order. I am looking for a fundamental, permanent and sustainable change - a healthy, happy lifestyle that I will choose to embrace each day! I aim to lose 35 lbs by the start of July, and to lose 50+ lbs total by the start of October. At that point, I will have succeeded in becoming lighter than I was when I got married! Once I reach these goals, I will make new ones (become the weight I was when I first met my husband, then when I graduated University, etc) - literally a dialling back of time but better because I will be stronger, fitter, healthier, consistent! My journey is a long one that I plan on doing well. :) I am on track now and if I am getting off track, I will reevaluate and get honest with myself.
My Program:
I now always eat breakfast and have regularized my eating. Now to commit to tracking everything to *really* get myself educated about portion sizes, my personal patterns and pitfalls. Not ready to post it all publicly, but time to get absolutely real with myself! I will strive for change in 5-10 lb increments, chipping away until I reach my big, overall weight loss goals. I love being active with my kids, and at 3 and 5, they are naturally active themselves. I will give them opportunities to be their natural active selves every day. I will do planned cardio at least 3x a week - more than that will naturally happen! I will increase this formally when I start to need more challenge. I am doing strength training workouts 3x a week - I love it! I have discovered a burning need to feel strong and mighty! I access SparkPeople on my tablet to do these workouts - great little tool!
Personal Information:
I have taught for 14 years - overseas, in the far north (fly-in) and in the city I have established roots in since 2000. I married at 36, had my first son at 38, my second son at 40, a miscarriage that really derailed me at 42 and a daughter (my last child!) at 43. I do have to manage stress carefully due to health issues (hemolytic anemia) with my second son - who is doing well and the long term prognosis is excellent. I apparently have a similar issue as him, but in a far milder form that requires no interventions. It opened my eyes to me eating to offset tiredness and seek energy. With the demands of childrearing, when I was 42 my hubby and I decided I would be a stay-at-home mom full time for the next so many years - which I am delighted to do!
Other Information:
I am not religious, nor am I political. I don't tend to have issue with the differences of others unless they seek in some way to violate my person, my freedoms, my choices. People can easily do this to others quite unconsciously, and I have in my middle age finally found my voice to speak up positively for myself and my loved ones! "Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known." ~Carl Sagan "Take the risk of thinking for yourself. Much more happiness, truth, beauty and wisdom will come to you that way." ~Christopher Hitchens Awareness + Behaviour = Change! "Never be bullied into silence. Never allow yourself to be made a victim. Accept no one's definition of your life; define yourself." ~Harvey Fierstein "If you try to lose weight by shaming, depriving and fearing yourself, you will end up shamed, deprived, and afraid. Kindness comes first. Always." ~Geneen Roth
