I'm so excited to find this site. I'm a 50 year old nurse who works 12 hr night shifts (7pm - 7am) and am about 50 lbs beyond my comfortable weight. I have seemed to develop this "buddha" belly that is uncomfortable. My endurance level is poor, I get short of breath easily with exercise. I'm married to a very active man which just makes me frustrated with myself for not being able to keep up. This program looks like just the "Spark" that I need.

Welcome! emoticon You've found a great site for motivation, inspiration and determination! It can be overwhelming but do not get discouraged. You will get the hang of this site. It's lots of fun and a great way to meet lots of new people with similar goals. I wish you luck in your journey! My moto is one day at a time. I like MAVERICK59's analogy about the book....one day is not very thick but all days added together show a difference!! emoticon

Hi, welcome to Sparkpeople. I try to send this message to help folks with the website because I found it a bit difficult in the beginning. I am not anyone special, just someone trying to gain control of my health, just like you. I hope you enjoy this website as much as I do. I have gotten so much out of it. I have met some wonderful folks on this website.
This can all feel a bit overwhelming at first, but don't give up.(All the advertising can feel distracting, but it keeps it free for all of us. Just ignore it if you want.)
Explore a little at a time.
Scroll through other member pages, if you see anyone you would like to have as a spark friend, just click the little button at the top and that will add them to your friend list.
If you are confused, ask questions on the Messages Boards, under the Get Help section.
Under the Message Boards tab, check out Sparkpeople Café and the Sparkpeople Game Room. There are a lot of fun running posts on these message boards.
Check your Sparkpoint page and see where you can earn more points. It’s fun to use the points to buy and give the ‘goodies’ to yourself or to other Sparkpeople.
Be kind to yourself and take it one day at a time. Expect set backs and just ride them out.Don't compare yourself to others.Don’t ever give up, instead, reach out. That is what we are all here for.
I promise, it gets better, one day at a time.
I like to think of daily food control like the pages of a book. One page (day) is not very thick, hardly seems worth the effort, but when you close the book the thickness of all the pages (days) together really have an impact. It is up to you to decide if the story is a good one.
