Hi, I'm Nikki, welcome to my Spark Page.
I'm currently 30, married for 3 years, and living in Chicago. I've always had trouble keeping my weight in the healthy range for my height. I gained weight at a young age (around 9 years old) and have basically never been able to sustain a healthy weight since that point.
My highest weight happened in June of 2008 when I stress-fed myself up to 205 pounds. With my wedding looming only 10 months away I knew I needed to take action if I wanted to avoid humiliation walking down the aisle. I joined SP early in 2008, but it wasn't until June 2008 that I really started using the site and making changes to my lifestyle.
It has been a tough and strange journey, but a good one. Losing weight is hard, but so worth it. I purchased my wedding dress on July 25th, 2008 and at that time it was so small I could not even step into it when it was completely unzipped. With a lot of work and the help of my spark friends, I lost 48 pounds and wore that dress (totally zipped, of course) to my wedding on March 28, 2009.
Today, in 2012, I am working on losing weight again. I kept the pounds I lost for my wedding off for about a year, but as we all know, life happens. Since 2009 I have been laid off, then hired again, gone on a lot of vacations, dealt with a lot of stress, and had a lot of fun. I've put on some of the weight I lost, so I'm back at it again.
This time, I'm following a Paleo-like diet to try and lose weight. I've learned that all the ups and downs I've done over the years have done serious damage to my body. I've also learned that all those "healthy whole grains" I ate as a staple in my diet have caused me to become insulin resistant. I've been grain free since November 2011 and now in 2012 I'm combining that with watching my calories to hopefully lose this weight once and for all.
I don't have a specific goal weight in mind at this point. I definitely want to be in the healthy weight range for my height (5'6") so anything under 154 pounds.
I'm following a paleo-style diet which means I no longer consume grains and I no longer fear fat. I still consume dairy (full fat varities), so I'm not 100% paleo. I think years of eating "healthy whole grains" has caused many of the health problems I'm facing currently.
I am a creative person at heart. I love making jewelry and decorating most of all. Someday I hope to have a proper jewelry studio with casting equipment so I can go crazy making jewelry.
