My name is Joy and I have been struggling with weight issues pretty much my whole life. I've tried it all - from pills and shakes to Jenny Craig and personal coaches. This will be the last attempt and hopefully I will lose it all :-) From my starting weight (June '06) I need to lose 105 pounds...

In 2010 I participated in a university weight loss study and lost 60 pounds through calorie restriction and exercise, however my back deteriorated and I had to stop exercising and my weight went back up to 250 pounds by the time I had surgery (7/2/12). I have been on physical restrictions (no bending, lifting, twisting, crawling, carrying, pushing, pulling or exercising) since then. I am proud that I have basically maintained my weight for 6 months, but am ready to be off restrictions and back to my normal routines. When I can start PT, hopefully they will include some cardio to rebuild my stamina as right now if I do more than about 3-4 hours of work I need a 2 hour nap.

Update 2014 - I am off restrictions and completed PT in June. I still get winded very easily. So happy to not be in pain. Looking at calorie cycling and slowly adding exercise.

My Goals:
To lose weight. I think I want to aim for 195 and then reevaluate.
To gain endurance - to walk up the 3 flights of stairs to my car without dying. To fit into size 14 clothes again. To be able to wear my wedding rings. To be able to dive again...


My Program:
Physical Therapy 2x/week and my own strength training based on their plan 1 day per week, walk 5000 steps per day (slowly increasing with an eventual goal of 10,000/day)
