Embracing the Challenge

Hi my name is Nelyza, 31, mother of 3 beautiful souls.

I made the decision in Feb that I was going to lose weight. After my doctor told me I was pre-diabetic. I was at 292 pounds and had other conditions due to my weight. Hi my name is Nelyza, 31, mother of 3 beautiful souls.

I made the decision in Feb that I was going to lose weight. After my doctor told me I was pre-diabetic. I was at 292 pounds and had other conditions due to my weight. Right after telling me that he said "If you keep this up, (my rapid weight gain) you won't last another 10 years" Now that was scary; I only thought of my kids' goals and that I would not be there to see them realized. My oldest is 16, she is in 11th grade, and she wants to be a Vet since she was 2 years old; has done numerous hours of volunteer work in animal hospitals and is currently taking her high school classes plus veterinary assistance classes. And I calculated 2 years left in high school, 4 years biology, 2 for master, 2 to 4 in veterinary med school; hey thatís 10+ years and I wonít be here to see that; Now Way!!

I had done it before and knew I could do it again, back in 2002 I went from 290 to 160, so I know I can; but not alone. I had a buddy back then and that actually made it easier. We kept each other on point and competed with each other. In less than a year I lost 130 pounds. This time I got a buddy who after 2 months quit, I then got a personal trainer who enlisted to the Air Force and won't be coming back for a while. And alone, procrastination started really kicking in. I tried getting my friends and family into it but no one has the time or the interest. So I kept going to the gym until the last week of July; then didn't go back for a month and a half and then when I went back it was on and off.

From Feb. to July I went from 292 to 246, and I am proud of those lost 46 pounds. I can say I have not gained any weight since then I am still at 246 but thatís not where I want to be.

In the gym one of the trainers advised I join a support group, but when I searched I did not find any local, so he recommended online. I thought it was a dumb idea, still I went for it.

I joined Spark People after searching and comparing I understood that this would be the best place to be. Was I wrong about it being a dumb idea. I have only been a member for a few days and I can say the resources, like the trackers, are great tools, and I know I now have more "exercise and diet buddies" than I could have ever asked for. I purchased the book "The Spark" and have spark people on my mobile phone.

I know I have made the right decision.
I KNOW I WILL REACH MY GOAL.
