Singapore challenge

I was an athlete until ruptured discs put paid to that although I continued with the same unhealthy diet as though I was still playing and training for hockey games. The wake up call was being diagnosed with elevated LDL cholesterol and comimg from a family with a history of heart disease, it's not something you can ignore.

I was an athlete until ruptured discs put paid to that although I continued with the same unhealthy diet as though I was still playing and training for hockey games. The wake up call was being diagnosed with elevated LDL cholesterol and comimg from a family with a history of heart disease, it's not something you can ignore.

My weight at the time was 89kg or 196lbs. Before finding SparkPeople I had already lost around 5kg but now trying to drop a further 7kg.

Some of the simple things I did to lose the first 5 kg are as follows:
- switched from toast and marmalade to oat porridge and fresh apples for breakfast
- switched from my all too regular habit of a Big Mac Meal to Greek Salad for lunch
- switched from a bowl of pasta with cheese and bacon to either soup or salad for dinner
- switched from beer to wine when out for a drink

Since joining SparkPeople I have been able to get below my plateau weight of 84 kg and down to 81kg in only a couple of weeks by doing the following:
- consistently drinking at least 8 cups of water a day
- counting calories and diligently entering the food I consume into the nutrition tracker
- returning to yoga
