Hello. I am from Nebraska and I'm currently working for the county gov. while I pursue my dream of being able to be supported by writing. Of course dreams like being a writer don't finance themselves, but the county job is a good one I will make into a career if my writing doesn't pan out.

I finally had my awakening as to how bad I had let my health slide when I was diagnosed with sleep apnea at the age of 27. I knew then that I was in serious trouble. It was a problem that wasn't going to go away just by wishing/hoping/ignoring/etc. I also wasn't able to do much in the ways of physical labor as I have always prided my self on.

In January 2008 I set out to change my eating habits. It was a good time to as I was just starting my county government job. I don't the exact weight I was at but I know it was around 420 pounds. I know that I was needing to wear at least size 52 pants and was beginning to need 4XL shirts. I had gotten into the habit of wearing mostly stretchy sweat pants as I was too embarrassed to wear regular jeans or dress pants. Most scales don't go as high as what I weighed. Neither do most stores carry clothes in my size.

I joined the local YMCA in January 2008. As the weeks and months progressed, I added healthier habits like eating more fruits and vegetables, keeping junk foods out of my pantry and fridge, kicking my 8 cups a day coffee habit (I even threw away my coffee maker) and, limiting fast food to only once weekly.

The truth is that we don't have to be mastered by food or anything else. I am starting to realize again that better health and being active is much, much better than being inactive and eating whatever you please. "Everything in moderation, nothing to excess."

Milestones and Rewards

Rewards for Milestones to come:

360 pounds: New walking shoes
350 pounds: Join flag football league
320 pounds (100 pounds lost): Completely new casual wardrobe.
300 pounds: New dress clothes and new suit
275 pounds (150 pounds lost and my weight at age 18): Join basketball league.
250 pounds: Join softball league.
210 pounds: FINAL GOAL: ????

    Only One Pound

    Hello, do you know me?

    If you don't, you should. I'm a pound of fat,

    And I'm the HAPPIEST pound of fat that you would ever want to meet.

    Want to know why?

    It's because no one ever wants to lose me;

    I'm ONLY ONE POUND, just a pound!

    Everyone wants to lose three pounds, five pounds, or fifteen pounds, but never only one.

    So I just stick around and happily keep you fat.

    Then I add to myself, ever so slyly, so that you never seem to notice it.

    That is, until I've grown to ten, twenty, thirty or even more pounds in weight.

    Yes, it's fun being ONLY ONE POUND OF FAT, left to do as I please.

    So, when you weigh in, keep right on saying, "Oh, I only lost one pound."

    (As if that were such a terrible thing.)

    For you see, if you do this, you'll encourage others to keep me around because they'll think I'm not worth losing.

    And, I love being around you - your arms, your legs, your chin, your hips and every part of you.
