I have been on a diet since I was 8 years old--my Mom was obsessed by her weight, as well as mine and, eventually, my daughter's. I rebelled and have tried most of the diets out there. I was successful with Weight Watchers for several years, and like their approach. In recent years, my weight got out of control. This past year, I lost my Mom, two uncles, and a very close family friend, my work became very stressful, and I really lost control. I am tired of my weight defining me, and making me feel bad about my self.

About 2 months ago I fell in the shower and fractured a bone in my upper arm/shoulder. Very painful, but after some physical therapy, I'm ready to get back to the gym and take control. This time, it's for me and my husband and our next 35 years together.

When I was younger and thinner, I used to make faces at myself in the mirror, from the time I was like 10 years old. I stopped doing that at one point, when I couldn't stand to look at myself in the mirror anymore. Also, I used to get a lot of comparisons to Alanis Morisette, and those stopped as well. Then about 18 monhs ago, a blogger friend who knew nothing about the Alanis thing watched a vlog of mine and told me I reminded her of Alanis. It had been about decade since I'd heard that, and even though it annoyed me back then, I was so delighted to hear it again because it meant i was looking like myself again. This last summer I realized I had started to make faces at myself in the mirror again. :D
