My Goal to Become a Fit Grandmother

I have obsessed about my weight since second grade. Since I recently celebrated my 63rd birthday, that's way too long a time. I have gained and lost the same 40 pounds four times at least. I know that this yo-yo dieting has stressed my body more than the 40 pounds ever did. Now I am the grandmother of two adorable granddaughters, just over 2 and 6 months, and my goal is to be the fittest and healthiest I can be so that I am here for them, and can just plain keep up. I live in northern Michigan ...

Now I am the grandmother of two adorable granddaughters, just over 2 and 6 months, and my goal is to be the fittest and healthiest I can be so that I am here for them, and can just plain keep up. I live in northern Michigan with my husband of nearly 33 years, and our very spoiled pets. I still work full time as an office manager plus have a part-time musician job on the weekends. In my spare time, I love quilting, and have included a sample here.

My Goals:
My beginning goals are pretty basic.
1. Drink my water
2. Add 20 min. a day to my usual exercise
3. Journal my food (and feelings)
4. Work on evening eating, I've really allowed it to sabatoge my program
5. Limit refined carbohydrates

My Program:
I have most of the eating principles of Weight Watchers and South Beach (plus a few recent ones from OA) committed to memory. They are often de-railed by emotional eating, occasions when I use food for comfort or entertainment. Addressing the emotional aspect will be as important as the plan of eating.

Other Information:
My favorite leisure activities are walking, reading, writing and quilting..

Hi There,

Just checking to see how you are doing. Things here are pretty well. One day at a time. It's almost time for me to shake things up and make a change to dump some more weight. I think I will try lowering my calories first. as I am already active. Would love to hear how you are doing. Love your spoiled pet picture. I own rescued Siamese cats who rule my household. Hope you find the silly in life. emoticon My best to you, Holly

PS Lovely quilts! Impressive talent. I've been knitting a cranberry colored scarf for eleven years. Lost the second needle. lol

Thank you for the great comments on your FitBit One and Leslie Sansone videos. I use her 3 miles video lately when the wind kicks up too bad here in the desert of Sin City!

I'm pretty stringent about my steps since I get in at least 15K or more 5-6 days out of the week. I should have purchased the FitBit One first but I wanted to be certain that I was going to stick with walking before getting more than a basic pedometer. I'm ready since its been a year now and after this go round I'm retiring the Zip and just keeping it for backup in case its necessary. I am going to buy one off Amazon I think some time in July round my birthday.

I added you as a Spark Friend if you don't mind :)~

"Above all else, do NOT quit! The universe always bows to persistence.
The empowering approach is to see your physical challenges as assets, because overcoming obstacles forces you to develop discipline, determination and character.
These traits will carry over to other areas of your life and make you a stronger person.
