In 2000, I was the heaviest I have ever been and managed to lose and keep off 20 lbs. My little tracker below motivates me to keep going on that journey.

They say success begets success and I think that is true. I read that I'll never be able to always have what I want, when I want it - in other words I can't go back to eating poorly and expect to keep the weight off. I have settled in to a new way of eating and activity that makes me very happy.

I lost my job in April 2009 and this profoundly affected me. It took awhile to figure out what I could do next. Slowly, I started working out and concentrating on me. I fell into making jewelry and have started selling on-line with a shop set up as Cool Serenity Jewelry in the Ruby Lane "store". I like the creative aspect of this and the business part too. I taught at College for many years and also worked in offices. I ran an adult literacy center for about five years before switching jobs to become a labour market re-entry consultant for injured workers. I was devasted when I was laid off because I took my job very seriously and tried my best to help my clients.

I like Spark People. I find them very supportive and there are many interesting blogs. I may blog one day soon as I get braver.

My Goals:
I am healthier and have more energy.

In November 2009, I was able to get off high blood pressure medication. I keep this note here to remind myself that I never want to go back to taking those pills again.

I am losing weight each day and getting more and more fit.

January 2000: 258 lbs.
August 2009: 239 lbs.
October 2009: 226 lbs.
January 2010: 219 lbs.
January 2011: 220 lbs.
May 2011: 227 lbs.

Next Milestone Goal:
May 2011: 199 lbs.

My Program:
Eat healthy real food.

Limit fast food.

Cardio 3x/week.

Weight training 3x/week.

Walk 10,000 steps or more per day.

Personal Information:
I was laid off in April 2009 and after a period of complete shock and not doing anything, I decided to use this time to look after me.

I live in Northern Ontario, Canada.

Other Information:
I like to read how-to books and historical fiction. I can crochet well but have a hard time knitting.

Foot and knee problems have prevented me from walking too far the last few years, but after more weight loss, I will be able to do more of that. When I started this in October 2009, I sat most of the day with the exception of my gym workouts. As of January 2010, I can walk about 5000 steps per day which means I am sitting around about half the day.

    Thank you for spending the time to read my blog - I think having just put that blog together - the first time I have actually put the developing story together like that and now the penny has dropped - and I am beginning to realise what I have done!! So - I'm just a bit slow in the uptake!! LOL!!
    However it has proved one thing to me – that if I can do it anyone can do it and you will find that the results are way beyond your wildest dreams!!
