I have always tried to please everyone and felt shame and guilt when I did not meet their expectations of what they thought I should be or do. I dealt with those feelings by comforting myself with food. I am just learning to deal with the results of that life-long behavior at this late stage of my life. . . but it is NEVER to late to change and grow! I’m not saying that we should always put ourselves first but that we definitely deserve our place at the front of the line at times! Let’s all “put ourselves first” at least once every day!
“Dedicate yourself to the good you deserve and desire for yourself. Give yourself peace of mind. You deserve to be happy. You deserve delight.” Mark Victor Hansen
My two years on Spark have taught me to keep trying, no matter the circumstances. I learned that giving up is not an option - I tried it and ended up disgusted with myself and right back here again. I think the most important thing I’ve learned is that slipping off track does not define me as a “bad” person but only makes me want to prove that I can be the person I want to be. Today is my “first” day back on track after a streak of five days of “poor choices.” Reading the following quote helped bring me back:
“It doesn't matter if you try and try and try again, and fail. It does matter if you try and fail, and fail to try again.” ~ Charles Kettering
“Your life is the sum result of all the choices you make, both consciously and unconsciously. If you can control the process of choosing, you can take control of all aspects of your life. You can find the freedom that comes from being in charge of yourself.” ~ Robert Foster Bennett
That quote made me think back upon the choices I made in my “less than stellar” 2011. I made many of those choices without thinking about the consequences; made them in the “spur of the moment” without weighing the pros and cons. I tended to choose immediate gratification without thinking of my future and I’m paying for it now by dealing not only with a weight gain, but with reawakened medical issues!
I hope you’ll join me in taking control of making choices; being mindful eaters and exercisers; being “in charge of ourselves” and our lives! Let’s work together to stay focused, determined, positive, and strong as we make better choices that will have a lasting impact on our lives.! Sheila 1836 days ago
