Becoming the best possible version of myself

Hello everyone and welcome to my SparkPage! I'm Annie, I'm 26 years old and I live in Finland. I started this process of re-creating myself in February of 2012. That's when my weight hit an all time high (190 pounds) and I was feeling absolutely miserable. I gained the weight slowly over the years - I was a thin child and a healthy, active teenager, weighing around 120 pounds until I was 17. That's when I began gaining weight.

On Valentine's Day 2012 I decided that enough is enough. I decided I needed to love myself enough to start taking better care of my body. I had been using SparkPeople on and off for years and I knew it could help me if I just started using the tools the site has to offer. Once I got started, things began to improve very quickly. I lost 30 pounds over the course of the next seven months steadily and I felt so much better, happier and a lot more self-confident. When I looked in the mirror I no longer saw just flaws: I saw potential, strength and beauty.

After my weight loss, I finally had enough self-confidence to make some much needed changes in my life and go after my dreams. My life improved dramatically and I learned to love my new body. After years of hating myself, I now all of a sudden loved my curves and my natural shape. I felt feminine, beautiful and empowered. So much so that I felt comfortable maintaining my new weight of 160 lbs for a long time before finally deciding it was time to finish what I started in 2012 and start losing some weight again.

Even though I love my body today, as it is, I know I still have some work to do. I'm only 5'2" and I feel like I would be a little more comfortable running and doing yoga if I weighed less. It's time to become more active again and start tracking what I eat in 2015. That's all it takes, really! My goal for 2015 is to lose the last 30 pounds I originally set out to lose and finally reach my goal weight of 130 pounds.

I still have my bad days. I don't always feel confident but I try my best. I put on my favorite outfit and walk with my head held high. The difference is, these days, even if I'm not confident 100 % of the time, I'm more than okay with being curvy. That's just who I am and that's how I like my body! I used to always set unrealistic goals, clearly trying to be someone I'm not. Well, no more! I always remind myself that there's no wrong way to be a woman - just be YOU! It's such an empowering thought. I've learned that not everyone is meant to be the same. I used to look at women in TV and magazines and feel bad for not being more like them. Taller, skinnier, more this and less that. Ever since I was 13 years old I felt like there was something wrong with me for not looking like the tall, skinny models in the magazines. What a waste of time! Not everyone is meant to be the same. These days I'm only interested in being myself. I'm just focusing on loving myself every day as I strive towards my goals and focus on improving myself in all kinds of different ways.

I'm in no rush to lose these last 30 pounds. I want to do it right, take my time, give my body plenty of time to adjust. After all, this is all about lifestyle change and never about dieting!

My goal is so much more than a number on the scale. I've learned over the years to look way beyond numbers and measurements. My goal is happiness, a healthy and active lifestyle, self-confidence, a life lived with passion and purpose. A life that I can be proud of. I want to challenge myself to grow. I want to push myself outside of my comfort zone and do things I never thought I could do before! My ultimate goal is to become the best possible version of myself.

Feel free to join me on my journey and add me as a friend!

Your intro invited us to add you as friend so I did! We have similar goals and I am of Finnish heritage, although I was born and raised in the U.S. I had an opportunity to visit the family homestead in Savitaipale Finland a few years back, and was impressed with the food (non junk) that is offered there and the amount of physical activity everyone does. Not like the U.S. Good luck with your goals!
