Hi. My last introduction complained about "cheesecake & sleep deprivation". I'm ba-a-ack, but in reality I never left. I just stopped taking good care of myself for a while. I think I'm wiser for it.
I gained weight back up to 240; reluctantly started sharing my weight tracke when I got back down to 230 pounds; and now I've made it to the 225 vicinity. Thank God!
Hey, if you are also heavy and it seems that the calories burned for the amount of exercise is ridiculously small, you're probably right. In my Couch25K group, we just started doing three faster intervals lasting 5 minutes, spaced with 3 minute recovery intervals. My jog is so slow that it is closer to 19 minutes per mile than 17. By the exercise charts this is a walk and would only burn about 100 calories in the 15 minutes "on" jog. I'm bet I'm burning three times that easily.
Like most people I had to do things in steps. First, I got serious about exercise in January, then more serious with 3 days per week of CouchTo5K in late March. In the past two weeks, I've got serious about portion control and snacking limits, and finally the last piece of the puzzle, Tracking. To me it is a necessary evil! However, now I've managed a little restart on tracking, and have a new, realistic goal of tracking a minimum of 3 days per week for the next two months.
In the past, I've tried to do too much at once. I fell into the instant gratification pit. Don't go there. If you're daydreaming about the day you can stop spending so much time exercising, you are not at the right balance of exercise and nutrition for you. The right balance for healthy weight loss can't be very different from the healthy balance for weight maintenance. Remember, new lifestyle!
I've got great local support. I'm getting back up off the ground again.
It will take time to reach a health body fat %, but here goes something!
I would show a picture with my beautiful wife, but she's modest and concerned about internet privacy. I'm back in the effort to live as well as I can, for me, for my family, for my friends and society. My Catholic Faith requires that I treat my body like a temple, but doesn't every religion require you to respect and care for yourself? Caring for yourself is a very good place to start, no matter your belief system. So, regardless of your religious beliefs, please say a prayer or send positive vibes my way. Thanks.

My Goals:
I plan to shrink until I again fit a medium shirt. The old plan was to lose 40 pounds in one year (by March 2013). I weigh about 222 now in mid June. I'm revising my goal to be shorter term and hopefully doable, 205 by the end of Sept. Eventually, I plan to reach a Body Fat % (not BMI) of 27 or less.

My Program:
My family needs our Y membership. There are trainers available to me thru my employer's gym. For circuit training and strength training, please get an expert to critique your form. It's essential. Ask questions; eventually you'll develop the knowledge. I'm attending WW weekly.

Personal Information:
I'm a Mainah (that's Mainer to you folks from away). I believe there's more than one Maine accent. To me, they're all charmin'. My son is awful popular, an inspiration to be a sport, via Special Olympics participation. I'm Christian, but Jesus tells me that tolerance is a cardinal virtue.

Other Information:
I love a moral story; sappy enough for Dickens. "The Lord of the Rings" is my favorite. I love all kinds of music especially Rock (Christian and most other), Folk, Blues, and C&W. I grew up American in the '60's; so it seems I've gotta be eclectic. We have a new puppy, born March 28, 2012, a yellow Lab.

MUSIC_MUTT, your comment on my post about the avatar for the January challenge was AWESOME!! Thank you for sharing that.

Then I come to your Sparkpage, and if I were a guy, your description of yourself could be re-named "The Story of My Life." Are you sure we weren't separated at birth? And what are your feelings on ice cream versus cheesecake? emoticon
