Mushira's Journey to Health

Hi. I'm happy that you dropped by my page. I started my journey to health in 2006. I'm a breast cancer survivor in remission since 2005. I love my life. Although I no longer smoke, I developed COPD with chronic bronchitis. Two years ago my fitness journey stopped short of its goal.

Hi. I'm happy that you dropped by my page. I started my journey to health in 2006. I'm a breast cancer survivor in remission since 2005. I love my life. Although I no longer smoke, I developed COPD with chronic bronchitis. Two years ago my fitness journey stopped short of its goal.

Two years ago I became wheelchair bound, at best moving around with crutches. I lived daily in pain and spent one year going to a pain management facility for spinal injections, radio-frequency ablation, and nerve block under general anesthetic. In the spring of 2008 I underwent a second surgical removal of a cervical disc, a revision to the first surgery, and fusion of the two vertebra with a titanium plate. For another year I used muscle relaxers and strong prescription drugs to mange the pain. The level of my life-long chronic depression dived to an all time low. During 2009 I was diagnosed with severe osteoarthritis in all my joints, degenerative disc disease, and fibromyalgia. I had two total hip replacements in August and September of 2009. Finally in January 2010 I resumed my journey.

My Goals:
My goals are to change quality of my nutritional intake for better health, increase my stamina and lung capacity, and achieve a considerable increase in flexibility and muscle strength around my joints and spinal column.

My Program:
Meet my nutritional needs with high carbohydrate fresh fruits, vegetables and greens, low fat, and whole grains, excluding sugars processed flour, fewer red meats and more fish.

Meet my fitness goals initially with aerobic activity at least five days each week; and as stamina increases begin adding strength training activities two to three days weekly.

Personal Information:
I come from a military family, so there is no one place where I was raised. I live with my husband Mark (aka "Spouse") in the St. Louis area.

Spouse and I have done quite a bit of backpacking, hiking, camping, canoeing over our years together. I love nature, especially mountains and rivers. The feel of my feet on the earth centers my being and renews my energy.

I like books and enjoy the way a well written book can alter my state. To work in the dirt and to nurture the life of a plant is joy. Wild flowers are god's gift of beauty for the spirit. To capture on camera some bit of that beauty is a passion of mine. The more time my spirit spends in the outdoors, the happier am I.
I love diversity in life and visiting new places. I am a woman of Faith in pursuit of spiritual growth.
