"To do more for the world than the world does for you - that is success"
"All parts of the body which have a function, if used in moderation and exercised in labors to which each is accustomed, become thereby well developed and age slowly; but if unused and left idle, they become liable to disease, defective in growth and age quickly." "All parts of the body which have a function, if used in moderation and exercised in labors to which each is accustomed, become thereby well developed and age slowly; but if unused and left idle, they become liable to disease, defective in growth and age quickly." Hipprocrates 5BC Welcome to Becky's Sparkpage or HELLGA as my clients so lovingly call me. I have ALWAYS had to battle my weight. From my elementary years through high school, I never knew what it felt like to wear anything smaller than a size 14..and that was SQUEEZING into them! Once in college, I began working out and the weight dropped, my body fat changed, and my true shape emerged. Not only did I change my body and health by spending time in the gym, I decided what I wanted to do when I grew up....helping others do the same with their lives with a degree in exercise physiology. When our oldest was celebrating her 16th birthday, we decided that I would quit my job and become a stay at home Mom. The teen years from 16-18 are so crucial, we thought it would be best if one of us was close by and able to keep a watchful eye on what was happening in her life. She had ALWAYS been a GREAT kid, and we just didn't want that to change. So began the weight gain in my adult years. Soon I was TOO busy to get to the gym. Exercise videos that I have a passion for went unused because too many other "obligations" were in my way. My weight ballooned but I refused to see it. My Mother In Law sent a picture of me on their recent visit in November 1999. When I opened the envelope, I couldn't BELIEVE what I was seeing. " Who was this person looking back from that photo?" I promptly put the photo in a drawer face down not wanting to admit what I had done to myself. I was too busy being a Mother, wife, animal caregiver, and friend to others to realize how my sedentary ways were changing ME. And ultimately my health would pay the price. My second pregnancy, in my mid 30's, just added to my weight gain. My OB/GYN aka the WEIGHT NAZI lectured me each week about the pounds I was packing away. I chose to ignore his advice, and at my 7th month, I was placed on bedrest due to toxemia and a close call with diabetes....230 POUNDS MY HIGHEST WEIGHT EVER! My blood pressure was 200/120 at one point...WHAT WAS I DOING?!!! Feeling horrible about myself, my health, and the risk I had put onto my unborn baby girl, I VOWED that I would begin exercising again as soon as the WEIGHT NAZI gave me the okay. I PRAYED for strength to succeed with my health journey and PROMISED our GOOD LORD I would never do that to my body/temple again. I began eating "clean" and exercising 6 days per week in January 2001 and we bought several new pieces of equipment for my home gym. I ate on plan everyday but one day a week I had a cheat meal. If I fell off the wagon one day, I would get right back on. I found some online groups geared toward weight loss and by logging in each day, we discussed workouts, foods, journalled, and challenged each other to longer workouts or routines to keep us striving forward toward our goals. By May 2001 and my follow up visit with the WEIGHT NAZI, I was at my short term goal weight of 180. As a reward, I tattooed my favorite horse Dunnie onto my calf. We will always be bonded together through spirit and now art. Through healthful eating, exercising 5-6 days per week, and journalling, I achieved my long term goal weight of 160 pounds in a 9 months. I had found myself again, improved my health 110%, had been a good role model for my family and friends, and then began to do what my TRUE passion had been all along and what I was meant to do when I GREW UP. I have maintained an 90 pound weight loss for9 years and am VERY blessed with the ability to work from home in my private studio helping others to achieve their personal health and fitness goals. I truly believe great health and fitness makes us better and stronger...INSIDE AND OUT! By perserverance, determination, and faith, I CAN AND WILL ACHIEVE MY WILDEST DREAMS AND GOALS! Some of my favorite motivational quotes: 2011's QUOTE TO LIVE BY: YOU CAN ACHIEVE RESULTS OR YOU CAN MAKE EXCUSES, BUT YOU CAN'T DO BOTH! *THAT WHICH DOES NOT KILL ME MAKES ME STRONGER! *Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. THEREFORE HONOR GOD WITH YOUR BODY. 1 Cor 6:19-20 *WELL DONE IS BETTER THAN WELL SAID! *A goal casually set and lightly taken will be abandoned at the first obstacle. *That's your daughter?! I thought you were sisters! *Where you find yourself tomorrow is a function of the positive decisions and actions you take today. *It's not what you are that holds you back, it's what you think you are NOT. *Learn to get in touch with the silence within yourself, and know that everything in this life has purpose. There are no mistakes, no coincidences. All events are blessings given to us to learn from "Fears over tomorrow and regrets over yesterday are twin thieves that rob us of the moment." "Processed foods not only extend the shelf life, but they extend the waistline as well." ~ Karen Sessions "Your body is the baggage you carry through life. The more excess you have, the shorter and unhealthier the trip." "Your body tells the story of your life. What you’ve been doing, what you’ve been neglecting, what you’ve sacrificed and what you’ve achieved" PAULINE NORDIN
