    Hi--thanks for adding me as a new friend! I've enjoyed reading your SparkPage and I'm inspired by the fact that you are working out so much--with half of one lung gone. You rock!

    As for tips for biking that you asked for --a year and a half ago my husband bought me a reclining bike for a Christmas gift. I had been using a regular bike which I had connected to a "trainer" so it stayed upright. I loved biking on this, but had to get off every 15 minutes or so (sore butt!) But I LOVE the reclining bike--I put a pillow on the seat, and it's so comfortable for me (I have knee and back issues.) The challenge for me is to go fast enough that I really sweat. It's easy to just pedal away slowly while I watch a tv show. But last summer I bought a heart rate monitor, which makes me much more aware of exercising in the "training zone." To do that, I have to increase the tension a lot, AND pedal faster. I try to do intervals--one mile normal speed, and the next mile as fast and hard as I can pedal--then the sweat really starts and the heart rate goes up. I read that intervals are much better than just riding for a long time sort of semi-slowly (which doesn't make me sweat.) I hope this helps! I do love biking--and I love seeing the miles accumulate. If you check out the "challenges" message board, there is a monthly biking challenge, where you state how many miles you wish to bike, and then keep posting your progress through the month. I've been doing this for about 8 months now. Look for "Biking Challenge...April 2010." In a few days it will be May and a new challenge will start. Good luck!
