I have been a member of SP for a few years now and back and forth between very active on the site and moving toward my goals and . . . ugh, ha. Although I have not made much progress in the weightloss department, SP has been such a great tool in helping me to become a more healthy person. I have been so proud of myself for the progress I'm making in other areas of my life and I am disappointed that weightloss has taken a back seat to everything else. My mother has struggled with her weight her entire life and I'd like to take control become a healthier me now! I am taking it slow this time and focusing on making healthy choices into habit. I think I'm ready!

I put on some weight a few years ago and have been trying to get rid of it on and off ever since. I want to be a healthy person! I want to love the way I look in and out of clothes! There's never been a time in my life that my thighs didn't rub together. If I can get to that place, I can die happy, ha! I want to prove to myself that I can do it!
I am watching what I eat and trying to keep my intake around 1500-1700 calories per day. I'm a pretty healthy eater, I just need to cut back a little from enough to maintain my weight to enough to slim down! Over the summer I have been working out a bit with dvds (the firm, windsor pilates, jane fonda, etc.) and I've been getting on the treadmill most days of the week. I also bought a good bathing suit so I can swim some laps soon too. Just trying to stay active is a challenge, but I can do it!
I am 23 years old and I am a human nutrition and dietetics major at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Hopefully my classes will keep my head in the game, ha. Although I love Greensboro, I miss my hometown, Charlotte, terribly. I love music and film.

Congrats on taking the first step to reaching a healthier you by getting active with SparkPeople - it's a great community, wonderful resources and fantastic support.
I suggest you just forget about the total you think you need to lose and concentrate on the 20-30 lbs that is doable. When you've reached that point, you can re-evaluate your task and if you feel like you want to lose another 20-30 lbs, you can decide then. Working on smaller goals makes the whole process manageable - after all, we gained it one pound at a time, right? So that's how we'll take it off, too.
Please check out the SparkTeams - I think you will find a lot of others 'just like you' there. You can choose SparkTeams by age group, lifestyle or interests, geographic location or several other ways - in fact, I suggest joining more than one group, post your intro there and write blogs as often as you can - you will find tons of friends and support that way, I promise!!
In my experience, SparkPeople is like a in some ways - it's lots of fun and easy to make friends because we're all in this together. I like the way a HEALTHY LIFESTYLE is emphasized instead of a 'quick fix wonder diet' - it's about waaaaaay more than 'just' losing weight so you have definitely come to the right place!
If you ever need any help using features of the site, there are tutorial videos under the HELP section that can show you how to use the features of the site. You can also find them on the START page and several other places on the site.
If you haven't discovered The Spark book and/or the SparkDiet linked at the bottom of the START page, check them out - the program is simple but extremely effective. There is a TON of information on this site - so much it might even seem overwhelming but fortunately we don't have to 'digest' everything at once! The FastBreak program is a good way to start.
Another nice thing about SparkPeople is that we have permission to be human - we don't have to change everything at once or be in a hurry to reach our goals. Take a few baby steps and then a few more and before you know it, you'll have completed a long journey - I hope you enjoy this community as much as I do - it teaches us how to make positive lifetime changes because that's the only thing that will work over time!

My beau and I got snockered last night --- ha ha. But I still made it to work on time and all that. I have grilled pork chops in the oven for dinner tonight, and we are having spinach and tomato pasta with a marinara sauce on the side. And maybe a salad and a glass of wine. I did okay with my food today so far, and I did some exercise with the stability ball this morning. We are on our way to better looks and better health, friend!
