I want to get in shape for the hiking season. My goals are to start the new year as a vegetarian, and to get ready to climb mountains in the spring!

I want to get in shape for the hiking season. My goals are to start the new year as a vegetarian, and to get ready to climb mountains in the spring!
Two years ago I was 238 lbs. I was so out of shape, and had constant pain from a back injuty/surgery two years before. I never dreamed I could carry my own pack ever again, boy was I wrong! Thank goodness! I joined a 3 month weight loss challenge, and then a second one immediatly after that. I dropped 83 lbs in 6 months. I was cutting my calories so low at the end (800-900) to try and win that I was hungry constantly and when the challenge was over I went crazy for food. I gained 20 lbs back but then maintained at 175 for a while. I hike a lot in the summer so I can eat whatever without gaining, but when hiking season was over this year I kept eating more and began to gain. I figured that after the holidays I would diet to loose what I gained, so I quit weighing weekly. BIG mistake! I gained 11 lbs!
Ok so lessons learned! never skip my weighing, and never drop below 1200 calories per day. My motivations are simple, I want to live a healthy, long life. I want to still be climbing mountains when I am 70. (I have seen it! Some people out here are amazing!) The only way that will happen is if I change my eating habits and loose this extra weight once and for all. So I draw the line here and now!

WEIGHT~ 162.8 (crap! I gained 3 lbs!) 35.5% body fat (but I lost 1%)

My Program:
I plan to do 40 minutes of cardio 5 times per week. I have lost weight before by following a diabetic diet, but now I am planning on starting a vegetarian lifestyle. I will still keep track of calories and protein to stay healthy and on track. I also will stay away from sugar and eat low glycemic index foods as much as possible. Sugar and high glycemic index foods cause me to have uncontrolable sugar binges.

My name is Katrina. I am 34 years old, 5'7" and mother of a 10 year old girl. I live in Montana and am a serious hiker. I want to get into great shape so that I can hit the mountains hard in the spring!
