I'm interested in losing weight, certainly, but I'm trying to change my focus from diet diet diet and scale scale scale to healthy healthy healthy! I want to eat healthy, organic, local whole foods IN MODERATION! I want to have my wine every day, just not a whole bottle! I want to eat REAL FOODS, not fake plastic fat-free yecht. And for that I need to learn a bit of restraint.
I've spent what feels like my whole life (and it practically has been) watching my weight and I feel like it's high time to make some changes in my outlook.
I have always been pretty down on myself for being overweight but I am embarking on this journey to change that.
To improve my life by continuing to improve my eating habits and fitness level to get to a more healthy weight. I plan to do this by sticking to such health habits as eating whole, organic, local foods in moderation, and finding an exercise plan that works for me -- and slipping in the occasional glass of wine!
I joined SparkPeople because I was looking for a place to get inspiration and tools for reaching my goals.
These are some of the things I'm doing:
-Trying a new food once a week
-Parking on the 5th floor of the parking garage and taking the stairs
-Taking a 20 minute walk (at least) every day
-Trying new recipes every week
-Changing habits such as eating in front of the TV
-Get all my water in before I'm allowed any wine!
-Using and contributing to SparkPeople message boards, blogs, pages, etc.
Hi, I'm Joanie, a 45 year old newly-married (whoohoo!!!) woman living in Long Beach, California, where I've lived for 27 years. I work as a computer Visual Effects artist but hope to change my career (I'd love to just stay home, garden and raise some backyard chickens, but the mortgage isn't gonna pay itself!!!) I live in a 1918 Craftsman bungalow with my husband (I love that word!) and a small blonde cat named Puss-Puss.
I'm concerned with living a clean and thoughtful life -- recycling, reducing my carbon footprint, eating locally and organically. I think these things are far more important than fat-free cheese, which is a hideous substance.

Joannie thankyou so much for my tomato goodie. i love fresh picked tomatoes that are still warm from the sun on some soft bread and alittle mayo, salt and pepper. Next year I will definately get them in. For now I will just need to frequent the farmer's markets.

Well a hectic life has kept me from checking in with my SPARK friends! Hope you are happy, healthy, and on target with your goals.
I completed the Casper marathon on June 5th and was a little slower than I predicted due to the heat. All in all it was a good race and I was happy that I set that goal for myself.
I decided I needed to detox my body - never tried it before. I am using the Fasttrack Detox method by nutritionist Ann Louise. I will consume liver loving and colon cleansing food for 7 days, fast a day and finish with a three day phase. It is short enough not to get bored and I love the rational behind it. I will be posting a daily blog as I go. I haven't seen a new thread or team on this one since 2009.
Summer is going by so quickly. The days are getting shorter. The good new is my garden is really taking hold and I have enjoyed many fresh greens and herbs, strawberries, and onions. Time for the real veggies to appear.

Welcome back! Thanks for your comments on my blogs! I really appreciate your thoughts about not getting down on oneself. Good for you for sweating yourself into a new place! That's what I did this weekend. And no worries... that's what blogs are for - for venting my own stuff and for inspiring others to do the same! I loved your list! We have a lot in common, girl!

Just getting round to replying to your post on my page a week and a half ago. I'm a slacker! We were talking about your darling M&M's, and you said that maybe if you put your and The Hub's pic on all your danger foods, you wouldn't be tempted. That's hilarious! I'm going to have to consider that myself! Actually, I just love to eat. Other than my recent bout of binges, I'm don't usually have trouble with specific danger foods - just general food!
Haven't seen you around the group lately. I know you're very busy, but wanted you to know that you are missed.
