I started this journey countless times in the past. I'd lose and gain and every year it seems I gain a few extra pounds for good measure. Well, this year is different. This year I am confident I will reach my goals. This is the year I am going to understand and accept myself. As a result, I look forward to feeling lighter, smiling more, and inviting more joy and live into my life. I'm 48, live and work in New York City and am determined to have a good year in 2016! ***********************************

My Goals:
My overall goal is to slowly and permanently incorporate healthy eating and exercise into my daily life. I hope to lose about 60 pounds, lose a lot of aches and pains in my knees and back and gain lots of energy in the process.

My weight loss goal is in 5 pound increments . I plan to be well out of the 200's by my 46th birthday on October 25th.

My Program:
1. Preparing: I am stocking my fridge/freezer with healthy meals each week. Simple preparations, using local, seasonal ingredients from the farmers market.

2. Track Without Obsessing: I am planning and tracking everything that I eat daily. Still going out but balancing it with my own meals. When I go out, I'll be enjoying a delicious meal with no more than 1 drink and passing on dessert so that I can enjoy the first 2 courses thoroughly.

3. Reduce Eating: I am keeping within 1850 calories (more if I exercise). Goal is deficit of 500 per day which nets out to losing a pound a week.

4. Dealing: I am dealing with emotional eating issues using the sparkpeople coaching program and outside coaching.

5: Exercising: I am doing 30 min of cardio 3x per week; 25 min strength training 2x per week; and 3 yoga classes per week. If the weather cooperates, I'll soon add a weekly long distance bike ride and/or tennis match .

    Hi Sosi, just wanted to tell you that your blog, Don't think too hard, just do it has made me look at myself and my behavior. Making decisions with conviction, for me, isn't just about food. I was in agony about making some decisions, nothing earth shattering but postponing making the decisions were agony. Once I made the decisions I felt so good. Amazing. Thank you for sharing your experience.

    Hi Sosi, Thanks for your comments on my blog. It really did help.

    I also find that whenever I discover a favorite make-up item, bra, food item, gets discontinued! Haha, I remember a few years ago when I wrote to Burt's Bees about my dismay that they were no longer making my very favorite lipstick. I was shocked when they wrote me back a couple of months later to tell me they were temporarily bringing this shade back and at a discount if I wanted to buy several (which I did). I guess it's sometimes good to complain!

    As far as the Zumba, I am going to give it a fair chance. Maybe she'll eventually bring back some of the old latin songs and routines. Maybe some of the enthusiastic January joiners will start to drop out by March (that ALWAYS was the case with Weight Watchers, lol). Maybe I'll actually learn this new choreography and end up loving it. I was feeling so down last night and this morning that I just had to get it off my chest. I'm feeling a little better this afternoon. I'm not sure if I'll go to Zumba tonight because I almost think I need a break. But I will definitely go next Tuesday and see if things are better for me then.
