Uncovering the real me!

I started this journey countless times in the past. I'd lose and gain and every year it seems I gain a few extra pounds for good measure.

Well, this year is different. This is the year I am finally going to reach my goal. This is the year I am going to start feeling better physically and feel better about how I look. I'm determined to make some positive changes to my life including more normal eating and exercise. I'm 46, live and work in New York City and am determined to ...

I'm determined to make some positive changes to my life including more normal eating and exercise. I'm 46, live and work in New York City and am determined to make some progress on my weight loss goal in 2014!

Whenever I think of the total amount I want to lose, I get overwhelmed. In fact, whenever I think about losing weight I get overwhelmed, seem to rebel and just gain more. So time to try a different way. How about focusing on practicing healthy behaviors:
-track everything
-exercise regularly
-insert thought before eating/drinking anything
-follow my plan with conviction; avert the agony

My Goals:
My overall goal is to slowly and permanently incorporate healthy eating and exercise into my daily life. I hope to lose about 60 pounds, lose a lot of aches and pains in my knees and back and gain lots of energy in the process.

My weight loss goal is in 5 pound increments . I plan to be well out of the 200's by my 46th birthday on October 25th.

My Program:
1. Preparing: I am stocking my fridge/freezer with healthy meals each week. Simple preparations, using local, seasonal ingredients from the farmers market.

2. Track Without Obsessing: I am planning and tracking everything that I eat daily. Still going out but balancing it with my own meals. When I go out, I'll be enjoying a delicious meal with no more than 1 drink and passing on dessert so that I can enjoy the first 2 courses thoroughly.

3. Reduce Eating: I am keeping within 1850 calories (more if I exercise). Goal is deficit of 500 per day which nets out to losing a pound a week.

4. Dealing: I am dealing with emotional eating issues using the sparkpeople coaching program and outside coaching.

5: Exercising: I am doing 30 min of cardio 3x per week; 25 min strength training 2x per week; and 3 yoga classes per week. If the weather cooperates, I'll soon add a weekly long distance bike ride and/or tennis match .

Hi Sosi - thanks for your comments on my blog. I really do love the white/silver hair and even more so that I no longer have to put those chemicals on my head!! I am striving to eliminate artificial-anything from my food and use natural chemical-free cleaning products. It just didn't make sense to me to dye my hair and expose myself to that. It's been very freeing to see more of my "authentic" self emerge.

I have been struggling again with the weight. Geesh, it sure is a life-long battle. I had great success earlier this year with the 17 Day Day and I'm pysching myself up to do it again. This time I need to complete all 3 cycles until I get to my goal weight and then follow the books cycle 4 maintenanc plan. On every plan I have used in the past, I tend to get the initial weight off and then do "my own thing". That's where I go wrong and end up backsliding and re-gaining.
