Losing it!

I'm ready to lose!

I'm coming off an injury which contributed to my 20# weight gain last year (went from 171 to 191). But my back/hip pain is under control, I've incorporated core strength training (yoga/pilates) into my routine, and I can finally get up and move again! I'm aiming to get back to 170# right around my birthday this year. While my long term goal is to get within a "healthy" BMI for my height (122-164), I'm starting with a few manageable goals!

Hereís what Iím going to focus on, keeping in mind I'm still in recovery from some injuries from last year

EAT BETTER - I need to stay within a 1,200-1,600 calorie range (suggested by SP and my personal calculations)
[ ] Make smarter choices to fill up the calories
[ ] Reduce intake of milk and soy
[ ] Reduce intake of gluten/wheat products

MOVE MORE - I am doing 60 minutes of cardio 5x/week plus weights 2x/week
[ ] Monday - Pilates Mat / *Zumba + Weights
[ ] Tuesday - Elliptical / Zumba
[ ] Wednesday - Elliptical / Reformer
[ ] Thursday - *Volleyball
[ ] Fridays - Elliptical (30 min) + *Pilates Reformer (in lieu of weights)
[ ] Saturday - Zumba / Recovery
[ ] Sunday - Elliptical (30 mint) + Yoga/Recovery
I can also change up my routine with running (C25K), swimming, biking or doing DVDs (BeachBody, Turbo Kick)

BUILD MUSCLE - I am working on increasing cardio and fat burning right now, but I am doing weight training sessions 2x/week. In June I should reassess where I am and perhaps begin a more intense weight training program.

Measurable Goal Markers
[ ] Restart the C25K program.
[ ] Sign up and complete at least one chip-timed race before June 15. My sub-goal would be to get a better mile time than my April 2010 5K PR. My second-sub goal is to run the whole 5K race without stopping.
[ ] Weigh in every Friday. Aim for a weight loss of 1.5 pounds EVERY week for 10 weeks (until July 15).
[ ] Take measurements every other Friday.
[ ] Take before and after pictures every 3 weeks.

I'm going to try and stay on top of my goals and check in here. Please drop me a line to say hi!!

Read on for my loooong history on Spark People...

2008 and 2009: 50 pounds lost and gained
In the Autumn 2008, I weighed in at 227 pounds. On my 5'8" frame, I knew that was more than enough. Using Spark People, by the end of that year, I had lost almost FIFTY POUNDS! But over the course of 2009, I slowly started to gain the weight back. I lost track of how much I would eat, and I lost interest in exercising. I never got back up over 220 pounds again, but I was close. I knew something had to change -- again!

2010: Running gives me a new motivation
With the help and encouragement of a good friend, at the beginning of 2010 I began training for a 5K using the C25K program. In April 2010 I ran my first 5K! I was still 210 pounds, so I was thrilled that I survived! I wasn't ever able to run more than 1.5 miles even during high school! Off the momentum of this run, I "re-sparked" in May 2010 (SW 203#) and was able to get down to 180 pounds after three months of hard work -- just in time for a high school reunion. I had weighed in at 178 in November! But the fall settled in and holidays came around. By the end of the year, I was weighing in steadily at 190#.

2011: Everything can change!
In March 2011 I was weighing in at a steady 189#. I began a 45-day challenge to reintroduce my body to the world of healthy eating and fitness. I finished this 45-day challenge and I was able to lose about a pound a week! More importantly, however, I'm staying within a decent calorie range for weight loss AND I'm starting to find excuses to exercise more than finding every excuse not to. By May, I had gotten the weight under control and was at a fairly steady 183. With some hard work, by that June I was finally in the 170 range again and keeping it off! My lowest weigh-in was in December again, when I weighed in at 171.

2012: Everything changes
This year was really rough. At the end of 2011 I saw a lot of major life changes: relationship, job, home. Even though I began 2012 at my lowest weight for five years, I let my circumstances get the better of me and I gained. it. all. back. The same 20#. It didn't help that I had experienced a few major injuries that left me depressed and in pain for most of 2012. In the fall, I began to exercise regularly again, starting slow with yoga and pilates: great exercises but doing very little to help me lose my fat!

2013: A new start
I'm beginning 2013 with some more energy. My back pain is under control so I can finally get up and move again! I'm aiming to get back to 170# by the middle of summer!

Hello! Looks like you are doing great! I've been off the wagon for a while. I've let old habits creep back. I'm trying to motivate to change that, yet again. How have you been??

Unfortunately the places that I'm joining doesnt have any classes. It's just a gym, no pool, no anything like that. It has circuit and free weights, bikes, tredmill, elliptical, tvs etc. but the big perk is it is open 24/7 :)

Thanks so much for reading my blogs and your comments. You should definitely go back to C25K see how different it feels now. Congrats on the 5k at 210 (great job!) and congrats on your weight loss as well - sounds like you are doing an awesome job!
