When I decided to have a mastectomy, I did both. Years ago I had a non cancerous area removed on that breast and I ran a higher risk of developing cancer in that breast. When they removed that breast, they did a biopsy on it and found the cancer. I'm very glad I did.
I didn't even have a lump at all. I had some oddly shaped calcifications that showed up on a mammogram. I had a biopsy, which tested positive for cancer. I had a lumpectomy & was told that there were no cancer cells left in the tissue, so the area was small enough that they got it all during the biopsy. Because I was diagnosed at age 43, it was highly recommended that I do a full course of radiation, which I did. I saw the oncologist today & I am still cancer free -- 1 year & 4 months survivor & counting. I'll be praying for you!!
