I started my weight loss journey in July of 2005 at a hefty 250 lbs. I had high blood pressure, couldn't walk up a flight of stairs w/o getting winded, was tired all the time. I was just ready to truly change and keep the weight off once and for all. I had tried all kinds of diets in the past. Atkins, Slim Fast, all those other diets. I started my weight loss journey in July of 2005 at a hefty 250 lbs. I had high blood pressure, couldn't walk up a flight of stairs w/o getting winded, was tired all the time. I was just ready to truly change and keep the weight off once and for all. I had tried all kinds of diets in the past. Atkins, Slim Fast, all those other diets. Sure I would lose some wt, but the minute I went off those plans, I gained all the wt back and some more on top of it. So, I joined Curves, cut out breads and potatoes, and lost 30 lbs on my own. I was seeing great results on inches lost at Curves as well. Then the dreaded plateau hit. I was determined not to let it stop me. So, off to my doctor I went. He congratulated me on my wt loss so far, my blood pressure had decreased and my cholesterol was getting better. He referred me to a nutritionist and an exercise physiologist here at the base. (DH is retired Air Force, so these consults were free). The nutritionist showed me how to eat healthy and actually told me to eat more. Yes.. more!!! I was literally putting my body into starvation mode. The exercise physiologist told me to do more cardio on top of Curves. So, I began a new phase and the rest of the lbs literally melted off. I can eat 3 meals and 2 snacks a day, and still lose!! YES!!! I have found an eating plan (refueling my body) that I can live with for the rest of my life. If I want ice cream, I can have it, just small portion, then move on. I recommend this eating plan for anyone. I also do cardio 4-5 days a week for at least 30- 40 mins. And wt training a couple days a week. It's been a couple of years now and I am still keeping the wt off.In October of 2006, I had lost over 60 lbs. Feeling great and looking fit. Then it happened. I went to the hospital w pains in my side and ended up having my appendix out. This turned into abdominal abscess and I ended up having 3 surgeries in a 2 month period. I was very ill. I could have died from all the infection. And then my incision got infected and hubby had to pack it 2 times a day as it healed from the inside out. I was laid up for 3 months. Finally, once I was given the go ahead from my doctor, I began to work out, slowly, building up my endurance and strength once again. I had wondered how I would ever make it back to the fit person I had been before. Well, slowly, I did come back and stronger than ever.
