Welcome to my page! I have to admit, I haven't put that much time into making a cool page like some people. I'm mostly excited about using Spark to check up on my calories occasionally & track my miles when I run. It's a great tool and it has really helped me see where I can make improvements. I also like how great the SparkPeople community can be when I have health-related things on my mind that I want to talk about!

How I ended up at SparkPeople - I moved in with my boyfriend (now my husband!) at the beginning of '08, and less than a year later, I had already gained 20 lbs or more. I'd always been healthy and active, and it was really scary to realize how much my lifestyle had changed, and how unhealthy I was becoming. I was determined to lose those 20 lbs and get back on track!

Just tracking my calories & exercise on SparkPeople was a huge eye-opener for me, and for a few months, I was carefully tracking every food eaten and every calorie burned. I lost about 10 lbs, but when my life got really busy again I stopped tracking everything and stopped thinking about my health, and the weight came back really quickly, plus some. I realized I had been too focused on my "weight loss plan," rather than making small, important improvements to my LIFESTYLE. I needed to make some smaller changes that were easier for me to maintain even when a lot is going on in my (usually very very busy) life!

So, now, I'm just doing little things differently so I can be healthier, which is really easy! I'm not on SparkPeople as much, but I still think it's a really important tool and it helps me check up on myself sometimes. The pounds aren't coming off very quickly, but at least I feel better & I know I can maintain the changes I'm making!

My Goals:
Get back to living a healthy lifestyle that I can keep up for the rest of my life! This should also mean getting back in shape and back to a healthier weight, which I can already see happening, though slowly :)


My Program:
Working out at the gym at least a few times a week, tracking my miles, and generally being more active! Also, making healthier food choices (but still eating things I like!), and occasionally checking up on SparkPeople to make sure I'm getting the right amount of calories and important nutrients.

    Hello! I stumbled across your Spark page and it really resonated with my own situation. A year and a half ago I started my weight-loss program with SP. I lost 20 pounds in about 4 months, which was awesome. Then my ex broke up with me and the pounds slowly (or quickly!) crept back on. I realize now that I was becoming almost obsessed with the weight-loss part of it all, as opposed to focusing more on smaller changes, shorter workouts, and less restriction. I am now back trying not to fall into the binge-over exercise combo, but instead trying to become healthier. If I lose the weight, that's great. If not, at least I know I'm eating well and exercising. My body will adapt. Good luck to you and your husband!
