I made a New Year's resolution last year to lose 30 pounds in 2012. I've already done that! I have finally hit my goal of 170 pounds. Only a few weeks late! My new goal is to lose another 20 pounds this year to get down to 150.

Before losing weight, I went to the gym, but wasn't seeing results. This was because I wasn't working hard enough and I wasn't keeping track of my eating habits. The real weight loss didn't start until I joined SparkPeople and used the free tools they have on hand. I also love reading articles and finding healthy recipes on the site!

I've lost 35 pounds in a little less than a year on SparkPeople.

I'm a crafty person and a teacher. In my spare time I sew and crochet beautiful items to sell and to give as gifts.

I'm also a runner! Ran a 5K in November and ran another one in December 2012. My next running goal is to run a 10K this year, 2013! I also want to run a half marathon that is on my birthday--in October 2013!

My new weight loss goal for 2013 is to keep up the running and lose another 20 pounds. I am going to focus mostly on my running, since I know from experience that if I focus on that that the weight loss will follow.

A former co-worker once told me that "if you run, the weight will literally fall off." I have found this to be somewhat true. True in that if I'm focusing more on my running and not getting injured while increasing mileage, then yes, I will worry less about weight loss and it will just come naturally. But sometimes my body goes through periods of time where its weight will just. Not. Budge. It just doesn't want to let go. These periods usually last between 4-6 weeks at the most and I've just learned to let it go. The number on the scale doesn't mean as much to me as being able to wear size 12 jeans again (comfortably!) does.

For a few years, I hated clothes shopping because nothing in "my size" fit me. This was because I was still trying to fit into size 14 pants when I was probably more of a 16/18. I haven't been under 180 pounds since I graduated from college about 4 years ago, and I'm so glad to be back!

The best part of losing weight is that I don't feel self conscious anymore and I have more self-confidence. Now I truly feel comfortable in my own skin. Things can only get better from here!!

My Goals:
My goals for 2013 are:

-Lose another 15-20 pounds to get to 150-155 pounds, my *ideal* weight

-Run a 10K (6.2 miles)

-Run a half-marathon (13.1 miles)

-DO WEIGHT TRAINING!

-Continue to have a healthy vegetarian diet with many reasonable treats!

-Continue to be happy, healthy and loving myself.

My Program:
I run at least 3 times a week, at least 3 miles each run. I recently added some 4 mile runs to my routine!

I also do a lot of walking since I live in an urban area and don't own a car. I don't usually track this as exercise though so it's just bonus exercise!

I am a vegetarian and have been for the past 3 years. I eat tons of fresh fruits and veggies!

Personal Information:
I live and teach in the Boston area.
