I had my hip replacement surgery on October 12, 2010 and now almost 7 months later I feel great! I have been given the OK to exercise as I choose, no running allowed. I am also continuing with weight lifting, focusing not just on strength but also range of motion and stability, replacing hand weights with resistance bands and including variations of planks. May 21, 2011:
I had my hip replacement surgery on October 12, 2010 and now almost 7 months later I feel great! I have been given the OK to exercise as I choose, no running allowed. I am also continuing with weight lifting, focusing not just on strength but also range of motion and stability, replacing hand weights with resistance bands and including variations of planks. For almost two years I have been eating a primal diet with great results- increased energy, much better sleeping, greatly reduced joint pain and swelling, no more mouth ulcers (must have been the grains) and much healthier hair and nails. This summer my DH and I embark on a new adventure, down sizing and building a new home on a country property. My passion for gardening should be satisfied for a few years at least as we start all over with landscaping.

For 2011 :
-eat clean- fresh fish, poultry, eggs and occasional red meat, 8-10 fresh freggies daily, seeds and nuts
-pay closer attention to portion size
-reduce my wine intake
-maintain walking program
- spend at least an hour in the garden daily (not in winter!)
-read a book every week

Goal- maintain my weight in the low to mid 130's

Personal Information:
I'm a farm kid from Alberta, lived in Ontario for 25 years and have now settled in Nova Scotia's beautiful Annapolis Valley. We have 2 adult children and one charming grandson plus a menagerie of dog, cats, fish and a chinchilla.

Other Information:
I love to garden. Crosswords and reading keep me busy when the snow flies. Cooking is also a delight- I'm always looking for new ideas for primal meals. I am passionate about diet and exercise and firmly believe that we do have the power to keep ourselves healthy by eating well and being active.

White Point Resort was closed! We had a nice cabin in the woods but no access to the beach, there was construction (blasting and lots of big gravel trucks) and we were not even allowed on the site. Got our money back but it was certainly a disappointment. Lots of other things closed too... too early for most museums. But did enjoy the fishing museum and Lunendurg. Got to Digby and had scallops by the water, listened to a celtic newbies group at Paddy's Pub in Kentville. Weather was very variable. Will have to come back to go clam digging and see Peggy's Cove and spend some time at the waterfront.

Hi Mollie. I hope you are well and doing fine. I went AWOL on my Spark plan, went to the WW and gained. AArrgghh. How is your hip doing? It seems mine is getting better and better as I grow stronger. By the way, I am back on Spark and motivated. Happy New Year! emoticon

I have booked our holiday to Nova Scotia for mid April. I'm very excited. I hear that the resort had a big fire so there is no indoor pool or restarant but I'm hoping they won't be doing too many renovations and be noisy. On the other note I have just been booked for a knee replacement so will have a new knee to walk on while there. I hear there are many great hiking spots. I will pack snow shoes too, just in case. My friend in Mahone Bay has a birthday in April as do I so it will be fun to celebrate together!
