I am an adult onset athlete (John "The Penguin" Bingham). I was an undiagnosed asthmatic as a child (everyone just chalked it up to being fat and out of shape!) and never the most coordinated so I rode the bench when I tried athletics and soon learned that theatre was easier and I was better at it.

I still regularly trip over cracks in the sidewalk, but I'm not giving up now. In my quest to be healthier, I am working up to being a 7 day a week exerciser with a mix of water ...

I still regularly trip over cracks in the sidewalk, but I'm not giving up now. In my quest to be healthier, I am working up to being a 7 day a week exerciser with a mix of water aerobics/exercise and 5k Your Way training.

Although I never looked like the typical lifeguard, I was a lifeguard and swim teacher/coach for years. I am enjoying being back in the water and trying to keep up with/push my 20-something water aerobics instructor!

I love to run! I always admired those that could when I was a kid. Now I am working on being able to race my nieces and nephews and set a good example of being healthy for them!

Current Status:
MNGREENEYES must have been tired this morning after a REALLY LONG day yesterday because I woke up late today and missed my morning workout. Guess I'll only run today not swim too!

My Goals:
exercise 100 days in a row. I got sick last week (March 12 and 11) and missed two days, but I am back on track for 100 days.

My Program:
I do 60 minutes of water aerobics 3-4 days a week. I cross train by working out on the treadmill. I am very slowly making my way through the 5K Your Way Rookie Running program.

My eventual goal is an average of 90 minutes of exercise per day. I am about halfway there (12.18.13)

Personal Information:
I have been dieting since I was 6 years old and the pediatrician put me on a VERY restrictive diet. I was not a thin child, but I was not obese. Enter body image issues.

I am now 42. I have been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and morbid obesity. I have 8 nieces and nephews for whom I love being the fun aunt, but I need to be here and be able to keep up with them. I also want to provide a healthy example for them.

Other Information:
2013 was my year to work on being healthy. It has taken me almost all year to get the pieces together to really figure this out. One measure of how far I have come will take place on January 1, 2014, when I run the Polar Dash 5k. I ran it last year without a lot of training. This year I am hoping for a better time.
