I've been absent for a while, but I'm back and strong and now I'm going to get even stronger.

To my Spark friends and teams, I'm sorry for being MIA for so long. I've had a lot going on.

This past summer I switched jobs. I left a job that I loved dearly for a better job. I'm loving it. I left working at the school to work for an eye doctor. I loved the school, but it was time to move on. Within 2 days I switched job. It was devine intervention.

In Sept, my daughter broke her ankle. She had surgery and we have spent many trips back and forth to pt. She missed her whole basketball season, except for about a minute of playing time. Four months later and she is still limping and frustrated. Getting ready to try out for volleyball and is just plain scared of hurting it again.

We also moved in October. We ripped up carpet and painted and painted and painted some more. We moved our whole house and all posessions in one weekend. We have wonderful family and friends.

I've been running and working out still and have participated in a few 5ks. My daughter did her first one with me a couple of months before the break. She ran it in right under 30. She did no training at all. We were ready to train for more. She will get back there. We are working on it.

I'm still learning on this journey. I still have about 15 total pounds to lose, maybe. I've been taking it pound for pound. It is so much easier than looking at he total. Each pound is a victory and a reason for celebration.

I don't know who said this, but I love it. I'm just going to focus on all the blessings I have in my life. I'm going to learn to dance, no matter what the situation. I'm so grateful to have the ability to get up every morning and go for a run. Thank you God for the sore muscles. It just shows that you have given me legs to use. Thank you for every single day, hour and minute. I'm going to make the most of every one of them.

Slow and Steady
Remember the fable about the tortoise and the hare? The hare got off to a zippy start and seemed sure to win the race. But he didn't, did he? The tortoise, while naturally much slower than the hare, kept moving steadily towards the finish line and was able to cross first.
What's the take-home message of this fable? Slow and steady wins the race. To reach your weight-loss goals, you need to switch from the hare's to the tortoise's mindset. In other words, you must break the "all or nothing" mentality.

Do you start diets with superhuman resolve determined to eat right and work out seven days a week without fail only to fall off the wagon and give up hope?

This kind of approach to anything especially to your health can be very tempting, and may even feel motivational. But I'm telling you right now that it's a dangerous approach that will only set you up for failure. Human beings are imperfect. It's inevitable that you will eventually skip a workout or give in to temptation, and you'll feel like a failure and want to give up entirely i.e., trade the all for the nothing.

So, start thinking like a tortoise. Pace yourself. Allow yourself to have a slice of pizza or take a day off now and then; just don't stray too far from the path that will lead you to your goals.

-Eat healthy (South Beach works for me)
-Cut the sugar

-Run AT LEAST 3 days

-weight train

-change up activity every 2 weeks

-Get out and play an hour a day.
