Hi. I am a mother of two that enjoys being in the great outdoors as much as possible. I used to enjoy hiking, running, and biking. But that was before I put on so much weight during college.
Since becoming serious about my weight loss efforts last year, I have done a few 5k races. But my greatest moment was actually completing a duathlon on 4/5/09. It was extremely difficult, and I finished second to last. That was only because the guy in front of me had several leg cramps. But I finished regardless.
The weight I have lost so far is great, but I still have a long way to go to reach my goal. Don't ever let anyone tell you that you cannot do something because you can. People tried to talk me out of the duathlon, and I tried to talk myself out of it as well, especially when I was one of the few "fat" people there. But I am glad I finished. Stay strong, be postive, and if you get off track (like I have done a few times), just get back on board and try again. Eventually, you will reach your goals. Next year, I already have a triathlon in mind, and it is really supposed to be for beginners with much less mileage than the duathlon I did. Who knows? Maybe I will be in the front of the pack next go around. But finishing is just as important because not everyone can say that they have done that much.
5k+ Races that I have done so far in 2009:
Women's Expo 5k: 3/21/09: 34+ minutes
Hammer Duathlon (3 mi run, 16 mi bike, 3 mi run): 4/5/09: 2:34:18- I will forever be known as the "last bicyclist", and the guy announced it out loud : )
SMARM 5K in May / May 2nd 34:22
Rooster Run: 6/6/09: Horrible. It was sooo hot, and I about fell over before finishing. I think the time was 38 something.
Marine Mud Run 9/19/2009: My time to beat from last year is 50 minutes. That run/obstacle course was the first 5k I ever did, and it was horrible but fun.
Do many 5k races and hopefully some longer races. Maybe, just maybe, finish a beginner's triathlon.
Just be happy and healthy so that I can enjoy many years to come.
I need to get back on track with eating right.
Exercise at least 3-4 days per week.
Really, I just want to be more active and enjoy life to the fullest.
I currently live in Newport, Tn. This is about an hour or so from Gatlinburg.
Favorite Movie of all time: The Goonies (Sloth is awesome)
Favorite Books: The Catcher in the Rye (JD Salinger I think); One More Day (Mitch Albom-This was the first book I read since reading the first book listed in high school)
Songs: "The Nobodies" , "Another One Bites the Dust", and "You've Got Another Thing Coming" - Great for that last stretch of running too, especially when I feel like I am about to fall over. : )

Just had to stop by and say "Great time on your virtual racing 3K!" I had to laugh when you posted your time as a "jog." That time was a "RUN!" My time was only a minute ahead of yours on a relatively flat course and I was dead at the end of it. You definitely RAN the course! Have a great day!
