I turned 50 in 2000 and decided it was time to take care of myself and finally get in shape, wish I had done it years ago but at this point its for me! Guess what they say is true, better late than never!

Your Excuse: I Can't Picture Myself Ever Being In Shape!
The Excuse Buster: Getting healthy and losing weight is most often seen as an external process: eat better quality food, move your body, lose fat, transition to smaller size clothing . . . and so on. But focusing on the outer process alone often leaves you with a sense of disconnection with your mental self-image.

Have you ever walked past a mirror and caught a glimpse of yourself out of the corner of your eye - and did a double take because you couldn't believe that was you? Have you ever looked at photographs of yourself and gasped because you didn't realize you looked like that? These mental jolts take place when there is a gap between your physical appearance and your mental perception of your physical appearance.

Weight loss is not just a physical process. You also need to "shed" the limited self-image that you have become accustomed to seeing in your mind. One of the easiest ways to do this is by visualizing daily the person you are becoming. The act of visualizing is not to make the pounds drop off, but rather to get your mind more familiar with the new person into which you are transforming. The more comfortable you can get with your beautiful new self-image, the more easily you will transition to your new physical state of being.

Tonight, spend some time creating a mental image of the person you wish to be. See yourself as slim, fit, healthy, and strong as you want to be, and put as much detail as you can into the vision. Love and appreciate this new and improved version of yourself, and then make an effort to BE this person in all of your daily activities. Think, speak and act like this person would think, speak and act. Move the way this person would move. The more completely you can do this, the more easily you will find yourself transforming into a better you - mentally, physically and spiritually.

Yes - You are right, living 10 hours from my son and his family does make us cherish our time together all the more. We had a lovely time together and I am so grateful that we are able to travel and see each other several times per year.

Hope your holiday was a joyous one.

MAKE TODAY THE BEST IT CAN BE. YOU ARE WORTH IT!!!!!!Your Excuse: My Negative Attitude is Dragging Me Down!
The Excuse Buster: In this day and age we are learning more and more about the power of our thoughts and the way they contribute heavily to our perceptions on a physical level. Have you ever felt like you made something happen by thinking obsessively about it? I'm not talking about magical powers here, but rather your own perception of your experiences and the outer events that seem to correspond with them.

For example, have you ever gotten dressed up for an event that you really didn't want to attend and didn't have any clothes you felt comfortable wearing? You probably felt uncomfortable through the whole event, worried that other people were talking about you behind your back, and in fact you may have even seen people whispering while looking in your direction. Maybe they were talking about you and maybe they weren't - but the important thing is that you believed they were.

Just like a negative focus can contribute to negative experiences, it is also possible to use this same concept to feel better about yourself. One way to do this is by performing a "lightness" meditation every day. If you begin to focus more of your attention on feeling light, slender and beautiful, you just might begin to have more experiences that correspond with such a mind-set!

Here's how to do a Lightness meditation. Once or twice a day, find a place where you can lie down and not be disturbed for 10 or 15 minutes. Take a few slow, deep breaths and focus on quieting your body and mind. Then, imagine that you begin to feel a warm, soothing humming sensation flowing over you, relaxing away all tension. Imagine that your body begins to feel lighter, and the pressure of your body against the bed or sofa begins to lessen. Feel yourself getting slimmer and lighter with each moment that passes, until it feels like you are actually floating a few inches above the surface you are lying on. When you come out of this meditation, you should definitely feel lighter, slimmer and better about your body - and it gets more powerful each time you do it.
