I wasn't always the slim gal you see in the photos to the left. Almost 13 years ago, at the age of 17, I started struggling with my weight. I know my regular diet of Mountain Dew, snack cakes, pizza, Chinese food and perhaps even my anti-depression prescriptions were all to blame for the weight gain. Before I knew it, I was almost 30 pounds too heavy for my small, 5'4" frame. I did try to lose the weight by exercising with my girlfriends (sporadically, however) and even resorted to taking pills that promised to increase metabolism. At the time, I had no idea what a "healthy lifestyle" meant and had no guidance or fitness program to aid me in starting my weight loss journey. It didn't help that I had never been a high school athlete, either. I am a girly-girl and back then, couldn't stand to break a sweat!
I did gradually lose those not-so-hot 30 pounds once I adopted a healthy lifestyle ten years ago. I went vegetarian, limited junk food intake and eventually started practicing yoga regularly. I was at my fittest five years ago at 110 pounds. I felt great! However, the weight has started to creep back. I have gained ten pounds over the last few years because of stress and lack of motivation. I am not overweight by any means, but do wish to lose those pesky ten pounds this year and become my fittest self!
For 2010 and 2011, my goals are to become a true runner and participate in my first 5K and 10K. I also wish to obtain a yoga certification so that I may teach others! To do this, I will log in to SparkPeople daily to track my progress and to get more motivation from people like you! I have a program, I have a plan and if I can truly stick to this, I know my fittest self will be revealed and those ten hard-to-lose pounds will be gone for good.
Thankfully, I have SparkPeople and its members to keep me motivated on a daily basis.

My long-term goal is to live a fit, healthy, and happy life!
I am a vegetarian who is now experimenting with vegan and raw food recipes! I am also a yoga enthusiast, practicing 2-3 times per week. I do 30 minutes of cardio 5 days per week and strength training 3 days per week. I like to change things up so I don't get bored with the gym! On the days I am bored with it, I do Coach Nicole's workouts and yoga DVD's at home.

Thanks for the add! I'm not far from you, actually, in the Mill Run area. I see you're looking to get into running. I'm running the Columbus Marathon, my first, and I've been training with MiT. Let me know if you ever want to get together for a run. Hope you had a good night at the gym!

Ive been working hard at building myself back up after being out 7 weeks with injury, I recently ran Chicago 1/2 marathon R n R
and Im doing session 1 x per week with Fitness Trainer Tracy who is helping with core, and balance strength to avoid injuries with all my running
