Intro. Update: Aug. 7, 2011
I have dedicated myself to a whole new way of working out. Where before I only did cardio, now I focus on strength-training and mix in cardio.
The difference has been astonishing! Building muscle burns calories, even while your doing absolutely nothing. I've RElost the 9 pounds I REgained after herniating a disk in my back, plus 2 more!
Though I am still in the beginning stages of weight-training I have learned a lot and would feel priveledged to answer any questions that anyone may have, whether I've met you before or not. :) Feel free to leave a comment or send me a Spark Mail.

So, this is my second try at SparkPeople and this time, "it took".
Prior to returning to SP in March of this year I had been struggling with losing any more than six pounds. My weight just would not budge; getting on the scale was akin to emotional torture, so I stopped torturing myself.
The six pounds I had lost found its way back and brought a few uninvited friends with it. I am five-foot-two and at my highest I weighed 180 pounds, far too much.
It had been months since I weighed myself and when I finally had to while at a doctor's visit I nearly fainted at the number I saw.
Somehow, I found my way back to Spark People. It had been nearly a year since I had last been here and I was very happy to see my password still worked.

Even then it took me a good month before I got it together, before I resolved to lose the weight. For real and this time for good.
Still, I struggled with very little loss.
But this time something was different. . . me.
I was done giving up on myself. So, I began reading the articles here in earnest and taking stock of the resources available.
That is when I came across the tool that tells you the number of calories you must consume to attain the weight you want by the date you want. I had been eating 1500-1550 calories a day, it turns out It was too much. I had to eat 1200-1250 a day.
I decided to really give it a shot. Who knew that 250-300 calories a day could make such a huge difference?! But it did.
So, I sent those 6 pounds and their sneaky friends packing. ~S~
After that things got easier, and as of this date I have lost a bit over 20 pounds total. I know I have a way to go yet, but the difference this time is that I really KNOW that I can do it.
When I wrote my return-introduction, (below) I said that I had a resolve that I had never felt before, and I still do, it feels good to believe in yourself, I highly recommend you give it a try. It's free but the dividends are priceless.
I owe a great deal to SparkPeople for helping me along my journey. I'm not certain that I would even be close to where I am now were it not for my second attempt.
I look forward to my future here and hope that as others have been helpful to me that I can in some way be helpful to others.

I am just starting out on this journey. I've decided to dedicate my blog here to motivation for myself and others.
I have this sense of resolve that I have never felt before.
Things need to change and I am changing them.

----------------------------------Why I gained weight:------------------------------
My S.I. joint was injured several years ago, lessening the amount of activity that I could do. I gained 30lbs in 1 month due to a medication that I was prescribed. And as the years went on and I became less active the weight crept up.
It's time for a change. I am ready and prepared to regain control of my life. I have started a small business and am going to begin writing a book.

-Get back to my pre-injury weight of 115-125lbs.
(Depending on how I feel when I arrive at 125.
If I like how I feel when I get there I may decide it is enough. ) ~S~
GOALS TO GET THERE:
#1a) Use my Elliptical 2X each week, to begin with.
#1b) Join my local Physical-Therapy Gym.
#2) Begin exercising in a healthy way so that I can sustain it, rather than overdoing and feeling too much pain to do anything for days afterward.
#3) Ride My MTN. Bike again.
(At some point during the week of: 8-23)
-Work on building my business each day.
-Feel strong again.
-Go rock climbing.
#1 Importance (For Me):
Eat a 1200-1250 calorie, Clean-Eating Diet.
If you decide to go to 1200-1250 you have to eat healthfully or you will always feel hungry. Because the foods I eat are nutrient-rich I feel great. In fact better than I have in years.
