Actually, my first 6 weeks were THE BEST! I was (and still am) super excited about my new lifestyle. I started feeling better so fast, AND dropping weight really quickly. I lost 20+ pounds my first month! Now I've been at it for almost 8 months and I can't imagine living any other way.
My best advice would be to make sure you eat at least 1 cup of beans a day, VERY IMPORTANT. It will help you feel fuller longer and helps with sweet-tooth cravings. Also, plan ahead! I always have an apple and carrot sticks with me, just in case. I always start the day with a huge smoothie (frozen berries from costco are a huge time/$ saver.) GIANT salad for lunch. Smaller salad and a hot side dish for dinner. THere's lots of room for creativity, too.
