Finally making my own choices

I have had to watch what I eat since birth. I got pregnant at 18 by a man who would disconnect my car battery and force me to eat. I was unable to make economic progress to be able to afford to leave but when my son turned 2 I decided I had to do this for him and took a bus to another state to start over free from fear. I have had to watch what I eat since birth. I got pregnant at 18 by a man who would disconnect my car battery and force me to eat. I was unable to make economic progress to be able to afford to leave but when my son turned 2 I decided I had to do this for him and took a bus to another state to start over free from fear. I was 200 pounds and gained 40 more during our 5 months of homelessness waiting for public housing. Despite walking around 7 miles a day with my son on my shoulders to find shelter from the cold when the Salvation Army closed and never getting enough food (I was also still breastfeeding) I was consistently gaining weight, just due to the enormous stress I suppose. I hit my highest weight of 250 while pregnant with my second son that I conceived shortly after being housed from my poor attempts to ease the isolation of poverty. Two years after his birth and 3 years since being housed, I am now at 225 and feel ready to regain my health. I now have resources I never had like a car and a supportive husband and those individually would be life changers but together amount to a miracle that I do not intend to waste!

Thanks for the blog comment. I'm definitely not looking forward to the hassle of renting a car, but what has to be done has to be done right? As for the exercise thing, you'll get used to it. Some days you really have to push yourself, bribe yourself, pep talk yourself, anything to make it work.

Wow! Your story is so inspiring. Your sons must be very proud of you and how far you've come on your own. Many women don't have the strength to leave a useless relationship. You definitely do deserve to do something nice for yourself!

I don't know your physical situation, but if you're feeling tired, cold, find it impossible to lose weight unless you're eating an unhealthy amount of calories, among many other symptoms, I would recommend whenever you're able to, to go to the doctor and get your blood work done, and ask them to check your thyroid. It takes years for it to develop. You don't have to suffer if this is the case. I always like sharing this with people when they say no matter how active, or malnourished they are they are still gaining weight. I wish someone brought this up to me sooner as I am hypothyroid and I thought I was going crazy before I got a diagnosis. There may be a medical reason for this, aside from stress.

Anyway, thanks for the friend add. I look forward to seeing your progress! You can do this! I know you can. :) When I first started SP I was 226 lbs. It has been slooooow progress but with time-- we can do it!
