Getting some traction

All my life, I've struggled with my weight. From my first diet at age 7, through nagging from family, teasing from friends, to Weight Watchers, Weight Loss Clinic, TOPS, a rainbow of diet pills, shakes, bars, counseling, self awareness groups, you name it, I've done it. Most of it worked, for awhile, but I gained back more. Well meaning people said I carried my weight well (whatever that means) so I deluded myself into thinking I didn't look so awful. All my life, I've struggled with my weight. From my first diet at age 7, through nagging from family, teasing from friends, to Weight Watchers, Weight Loss Clinic, TOPS, a rainbow of diet pills, shakes, bars, counseling, self awareness groups, you name it, I've done it. Most of it worked, for awhile, but I gained back more. Well meaning people said I carried my weight well (whatever that means) so I deluded myself into thinking I didn't look so awful. But seeing 300 lbs looming on my doctor's scales was a real wake up call. I was actually researching weight loss surgery when I found a link to Sparkpeople and decided to join in August 07. By January 08, I'd lost 38 pounds, then plateau-ed for a month or so, but since March 08, the honeymoon is over. I've yo-yo-ed with 5 lbs, then 7, now (June 2010) nearly all of it has crept back. I'm still hanging in with SP though, and joined TOPS in Sept. 08. That helped me refocus for awhile, but a year and a half later I'm still spinning my wheels. What's sad is the 100 lbs I say I want to lose would be gone by now if I'd really worked at it.

Feb. 24 2011 - The spinning wheels have officially stopped. This is the year I'm going to do it! My goal is to wear my wedding dress at our 25th anniversary on May 2, 2012, which means 70 lbs off in 14 months - 5 lbs a month. That is definitely do- able & I'm gonna do it!
2012 update: Got down to 239 lbs for our anniversary celebration in May - not nearly enough to wear my wedding dress, a major disappointment. And what do I do when disappointed? Eat! Yo-yo'ed all summer, but the weight was creeping back on. Managed to put on the brakes before gaining it all back and am now on the downward trend, but man is it tough! Suffering with chronic back pain isn't helping. Thank God for SP!
Jan. 3, 2013 - Will this be the year? I'm stuck at 254 lbs & hanging on by my fingernails. Time to set another goal & start again.

January 3, 2014. Well, 2013 wasn't the year as I'm ending it 4 lbs higher & spent most of it bouncing up and down the same 3 to 5 pounds. Note to self - Maintenance is AFTER you lost the weight not BEFORE. Lots of excuses I could offer, but the truth is I don't really try. Setting goals - no problem! Working on them - quite another story. I want to weigh 225 in time for my university's 225th anniversary reunion. If I lose one pound a week from now to then, I can do it. But will I?

Personal Information:
I live on a mixed farm in Manitoba, Canada with my hubby & 2 furbabies (cats) Brian & Miss Peanut. Retired in 1998 from a 30 year career in museums & communications; Now keep busy with volunteering, singing & generally keeping the home fires burning.

Other Information:
Music is a big part of my life. I am part-time organist at my church and sing alto & act in a amateur musical theatre group.

Hi Charlotte, as far as my chair exercises, I count the exercises from my p/t that I have for after my knee replacement still. The strength exercises. I believe that they're really helping my knee to get stronger. I hope that you have a good week ahead and a safe and warm one too! emoticon

thanks for the nice words on my page. I am working hard with exercising and working on getting my snacks under control to get even healthier. I have went back to eating off a salad plate for dinner. Hope you are having a healthy and happy week.

Thank you for your kind words about my boys. Ozzie and Moe were such sweet boys and we do miss them.
Ozzie was the first of the birth brothers to leave us. We brought home a friend for Moe. Hunter is a very sweet boy and they got to be best buds. Last year we lost Moe and I swore I wouldn't get another but Hunter (already a big boy) started to just lay around. He is only 3 years old and so I was checking the Humane Society site for a few weeks and there was a sweet little girl still there and at 5 years old I was worried they would put her down. When I went to see her, she put her paws around my neck and gave me a hug. needless to say she melted my heart and came home with me.
We now have the two of them running around and they both are staying happy and healthy.

Hi there, Charlotte, I did find a few bargains alright! A beautiful black blouse with beautiful roses on it at Target. Found some other deals too, then went on to WalMart and that was mainly grocery shopping, but boy, did I ever rack up the minutes with all that walking at both of those places. I really didn't know about shopping counting for fitness, until one of the SP coaches said so. And it really does make sense, with all the walking one does with a cart. Sure beats sitting at home. Thanks for your comment and I hope you've had a good day.
