Mimaw Elizabeth

I am 59 years old, married three times, have children and grandchildren, and have been happily married for 15 years.
I also remain physically disabled from a brain & spinal injury in 1994, and fight PTSD in addition to physical limits.

My main goal on Spark is to stay motivated and live a healthy lifestyle, both by eating wisely and being active physically. Food-wise, I'm doing well; exercise, not as consistently as desired.

My main goal on Spark is to stay motivated and live a healthy lifestyle, both by eating wisely and being active physically. Food-wise, I'm doing well; exercise, not as consistently as desired.

My beloved son Scott was killed in February 2008 (details are in my blogs from February and March 2008). I will always grieve the hole left in my heart, and am forever changed by his death... However, I also found a wellspring of faith I didn't know I had. There is no doubt I have been very blessed.

I hope you'll take a look at my Photo Gallery, and share those special times, past and present, spent with my wonderful family. The latest are of my new grandbaby, Sierra Elizabeth!

My husband was diagnosed with ESRD (kidney failure) and started Peritoneal Dialysis in Spring 2011. He's suffered several health complications since Jan 2015, and switched to Hemodialysis.

DH had major surgery at the end of September, and was finally well on his way to an expected full recovery from the months of illness. Unfortunately, he suffered a serious fall in December, and in his weakened state, caught a severe flu and developed pneumonia. More complications landed him in the ICU.

DH is home now, and slowly improving.
I don't know what our "new normal" will be, but we're dealing with the different possibilities. My first priority is DH: to feed him healthily, help with his physical therapy, and surround him with as much love as possible. As I take care of him, I find I'm doing for myself as well!

My Goals:
My initial ambitious attempts on Spark triggered my usual self-sabotage, crash- and- burn pattern. I decided to take my time and learn to use Spark's tools, going for a long term goal of eating and living healthily, but not worrying about weight loss.

I've been very heavy (obese) for over 30 years now, except for a short time 15-17 years ago. I quickly lost 105# and had maintained for almost two years. I was doing very well, but "lost it" - the panic, depression and inertia of PTSD, prompted by retrauma of CSA, caused a complete reversal and I gained over 50# in 4 months, plus 20 more over 3 months, going on to gain 115# total.

My Program:
I'm doing well now as far as using the tools on Spark.
I weigh and measure and honestly track ALL my food every day. That's the bottom line for me, the most basic of steps, and IMO the most important tool.

I love to do Spark activities; but reading and posting on my teams' message boards is a source of support and comfort, and an outlet when I need one. I try to remember to turn to Spark when I start floundering, and I've spent many a night on Spark instead of binging.

I have "Silver Sneakers" and use the pools at the local gyms for water-based physical therapy. My biggest challenge is exercising consistently.
The problem is just as much a mental block as it is my physical limitations.

Personal Information:
I have two biological children from my first two marriages. Often, they were my only reason for living, and remain my heart and soul.
Son Scott would be 36, but he died in February 2008. Daughter Aubrey, 30, married in 2007; photos are in my gallery. She and SIL live in Colorado with their daughter, born end of March 2015.

My DH Bob is a wonderful, affectionate and caring man who has always loved me just the way I am! We've been together since 1996, and married 15 years.

His grown daughter has two children (one step, one bio).
I am "Mimaw" to Kaile, age 12, who is part of our life almost every day, and has been since her birth. We live in southern California.

I was crippled in a fall in 1994, disabled with a brain and spinal injury. My children suffered greatly, financially and emotionally, made worse when abandoned by my second husband in 1995.

Slowly, I rebuilt my life with my kids. Meeting my DH is the icing on the cake of life

Other Information:
PTSD from violent sexual abuse in my childhood has hindered me all my life.
With the death of my son,
I am dealing with a whole new set of devastating emotions.

When I started on Spark in 2007, the wonderful and caring community made a huge difference in my life.
I feel stronger and more grounded, and have had more successful days and weeks in the last nine years than in ALL my years before!

Also, I know I would not have survived the death of my son without Spark in my life, and support of my Sparkfriends.

That was so sweet of you to send me that note explaining everything. What I wondered about specifically is I understand entering my exercise minutes + water; but now on the Yukon Challenge I see people putting in Team Tracking and it's always #10. That wasn't there on the Taiwan Challenge.

Hugs, Eve

Up, up and away we go!! emoticon

It'll be a long flight so get up and walk around a bit (the faster we log those minutes in, the quicker we land the plane) and you know how plane air can get.. stay hydrated and log that water in too.

To the Awesome A Team.. Cheers! emoticon
